The Catholic Church in every century has always had married clergy (though not always in the West). It has never taught that it was theologically or dogmatically impossible to have married clergy --- otherwise the 20+ Churches of the East (Melkite, Maronite, Coptic, Chaldean, Ruthenian, Ukrainian, etc.) would not be Catholic.
