Although the army denies shelling civilians or buildings used by civilians, a woman who gave her name only as Tatyana said she had seen the incident in which the now burnt-out sports store was hit: "People were burned, lying on the street. There was a body lying there," she said pointing under the rubble, her hands dirty because of a lack of water to wash with.
The transformation of Slaviansk in the past week is a result of the two-pronged policy being pursued by President Petro Poroshenko, the pro-Western leader elected last month and sworn in on Saturday with a pledge to end the insurrection.
Although he has started talks with Russia on a peace plan he has drawn up, he has also ordered Ukraine's armed forces to step up their "Anti-Terrorist Operation" to win back control of towns and cities held by rebels seeking unification with Russia.
He is treading a tightrope. The rebels show no sign of surrendering, meaning force looks the only way of prising them out; but pushing too hard risks civilian casualties. That could both antagonize Moscow, whose troops are just across the border, and alienate eastern Ukrainians, deepening the nation's divide.

Strelkov’s update talks about another ambush. They tagged another convoy northeast of Slovyansk.
He’s been very tight-lipped about claiming opposition losses, but this time he says “a lot of killed and wounded.”

The results of yesterday shelling of Slavyansk by the Ukrainian gunmen: one woman was killed, the other was badly wounded.
The results of our second lying-in-wait on the road Kharkov-Rostov. (Yesterday I have already written that we had burnt one armoured vehicle by the shot from “Mykha”). Today one armoured vehicle was put out of action with the shot from light anti-tank weapon.
(Unfortunately it didn’t burn and was towed), one KAMAZ was burnt the other was destroyed. The enemies lost a lot of killed and wounded. The self-defense forces are free of losses. As a result of the lying-in-wait the rest of the convoy of the Ukrainian army which headed to Slavyansk turned back.
The enemies shelled Cherevkovka a few times at night.
Everything is calm since the morning.
Yesterday the enemies have been shelling our locations. But everything was in vain. Our recon elements had been disturbing the enemies postings in 1 km to the South-East of the town Krasniy Liman. The results are still unknown. We are free of losses.
Ten self-defensers killed at the battle for the town will be buried today.

Apparently, Euromaidan PR is reporting the airport in Lugansk has been under attack for the last 3 hours.
RIA Novosti is reporting that around 2,000 National Guard and Airborne were flown in to Luhansk airport in the last two or three days, and are now cut off. Rebels have blown up the main water feed to the airport, apparently.
Eight former employees of Berkut are fired for refusing to exit the zone of the anti-terrorist operation. – Actually, the war is a hard litmus. Somebody is fighting, Somebody is hiding... I have decided to fire eight former employees of Berkut from Chernihiv region. They refused to have a business trip in the ATO area. I do not want even discuss. Yesterday their friends became a part of the ATO forces in Krasnyi Lyman, they showed themselves to the best advantage, – said in a statement. The Minister of Internal Affairs also reminded that few days ago there were buried several workers of Berkut from Ivano-Frankivsk, who died in Donetsk region during the anti-terrorist operation.
Per Twitter, the Izvaryne border post, east of Krasnodon, has surrendered to the rebels.
However...in comes Poroshenko now calling for a 'safety corridor' to "show" he's concerned for the people. Forgetting that Putin called for that weeks ago and opened his own....might be they are working together on this but I have my doubts...could be part of their so called "Understanding".
Everything remains to be seen now as this week goes IMO... week....which will determine all the following weeks ahead I think.
Yes indeed the rebels blew up the water to the airport...they video taped the soldier setting the explosion and blowing it up. Fascinating to see that we know these things not long after they occur. I should of saved it....

United States keeps talking to them and “training” them how things need to work but IMO it's like talking to a wall of non-comprehension. These people have their own way of settling matters...and it's all about who wins... period.... No compromise...they simply don't know anything else.
I truly do not see Ukrainian people being more than what they have been...even under this New President.
The same thing happened in Egypt....your talking to suppressed people...they simply can't grasp what freedom and democracy is. ....they are accustomed to being told how things are going to be. There's no way these two sides can come together...there simply is no trust...in fact just the opposite,a continued pattern of failure to establish this. This is also why Obama is not conceding anything in Ukraine, it's his way or the highway. His upbringing and formative years, as well as college years, IS his foundation which he's governing with...and why his comprehension is so bad about International affairs and really what democracy is...he's never lived under it while growing up.
