I agree with your sentiment to a degree, but should the punishment not fit the crime? If the desire is to punish people for sex outside marriage, then the women should ALSO be punished. Islam is starting to look more better with every passing year.

I agree there is a double standard and draconian punishment is possible.

There should be no punishment if any kind unless and until a judicial proceeding has taken place, with the rights of the accused preserved.
