Robert Reilly is one of the more respected men in Washington, DC. As a very young man, he was a special adviser to President Reagan. He is a longtime music critic, specializing in teaching the emergence of amazing new orchestral music. He was a spokesman behind the green line during the Iraq war, reporting directly to Paul Bremer, head of the occupational authority. He led the Voice of America.
Reilly's new book cannot get a hearing; there is a media blackout, a stonewall even among the conservative press who, according to a high-ranking think tank scholar at the Hudson Institute, owe him at least a hearing on his controversial new book Making Gay Okay, out now several weeks from the Catholic publisher Ignatius Press.
But so far, silenceor the sound of slamming doors.
Nothing in National Review, not even National Review Online. Nothing in Weekly Standard, even though Reilly reached out personally to his old friend Bill Kristol. Nothing in the American Spectator, which has already rejected a piece on the book by one of their longstanding contributors. The Wall Street Journal didnt even lead the publisher along. They said simply and firmly, no.
What is everyone so worried about?

Perhaps they don’t think “gay” is ok, and have no intention of promoting the whole notion.
Note to homosexuals.....all of us are not going to convert. Some of us will choose to listen to God, and not submit to your pressure. We won’t answer to you when we die - we will answer to Him. It matters not what you think, or even what we think. Only God’s opinion on the subject is important.
“Note to homosexuals.....all of us are not going to convert.”
What really irks them is that most normal people are disgusted by what homosexuals do to each other...
This is the thinking among a whole lot of people, not just "young editors." I understand it is also part of Mr. Reilly's argument. "We can't judge" the behavior of homosexuals, because that would be to acknowledge that there are standards by which our own behavior could be judged and condemned.
Not every single media outlet has to cover every politically correct book that comes out. The Conservative Media can rest assured that this book will get lots and lots of coverage. They cover books of substance that cover new ground. Nothing that we’re reading here indicates that there any new news in this book.
I ignore them. If they must do it, please do it in private. I do not wish to see it. The left is just pushing aberant behavior to hasten their Marxist agenda.
Heterosexuals also do some awful things to each other but they do not try and change Church thinking on sexual perversity as homosexuals do.
I am glad to see people using the label ‘homosexual’ rather than ‘gay’ because there is nothing gay about the homosexual lifestyle.
It will be the opening story on CNN for a month, read aloud, narrated by one of the many sodomites on the network, probably Anderson Blooper. On PMSNBC Resident sodomite Rachel Madcow will rant for the first 30 minutes about how awful republicans are and how they will never win another election unless they embrace marriage “equality”.
Fox News will also cover the book, probably resident homo “marriage” supporting Megyn Kelly.
Why would I buy a book about queers? It is not that they refuse, it’s a waste of time and effort.
“Heterosexuals also do some awful things to each other but they do not try and change Church thinking on sexual perversity as homosexuals do.”
I would probably be just as disgusted by, and never defend, those things either.
I’d prefer something beyond “homosexual” that captures the mental illness involved; I normally refer to them as deviants, but that is too broad a term.
Sodomites works for me.
I smell a LAWSUIT!!!
It's already been done. The Catholic Church is the only major Christian organization that has not changed its teaching on heterosexual perversity. Many now approve the whole gamut of immoral sexual behavior between opposite-sex partners.
Did anyone even read the article? The book in question is absolutely politically incorrect. It refers to 'gay' marriage as 'sodomitical' marriage. It is an examination of how the press - all of the press, both mainstreeam and now even 'conservative' - have colluded in changing the language and the arguments that previously surrounded discussion of homosexuality. Criticism and even honest examination of the health risks and psychological/moral defects of the homosexual lifestyle have been determined to be verboten. The 'conservative' press, such as it is, largely goes along with this.
This is one of the dangers of blindly following 'conservative' writers, leaders and politicians and thinking that they're on your side and it's your team. As the entire culture slides ever leftward, the federal government keeps growing and liberty keeps shrinking... does anyone notice that your 'team' moves right along in the same direction? Issues that many here on FR have strong opinions about such as illegal immigration, the homosexual movement, the financial and cultural destruction of the middle class - they continue apace no matter which team wins elections. The Conservative Movement is not halting anything and is certainly not tearing anything down that the Left has erected. Do you enjoy being groped and treated like sheep at the airport? Your 'team' built that. It will never go away.
This man wrote a book that is critical of the cultural, religious, moral and ethical breakdown and how very powerful and very effective media campaigns have changed the very 'rules' of discussing the issue. The conservative press won't even mention or discuss the book. Nothing to see here, move along. They've conceded ever more ground, and would prefer this man's book not inform or upset you about that.
When a movement won't even conserve facts or the proper meaning of words, I begin to deem it unworthy of being called 'conservative.' There are still millions of actual conservatives in this country. Until it is realized that the elites in what you think is your press and your political party actually have much more in common with the Left than with you, this country will continue its steady slide. At what point is there nothing left worth conserving?
Yes, that’ll do. The biblical reference should be appropriate...
Go to amazon and read the reviews. This is from ignatious press...the reviewer is plunking us into paying attention.
PUNKING us. Danged spell check.
Read the article FReepers. People are shunning the book because it is anti-homosexual.
Excellent post.
So...the two percent have defeated the ninety eight percent?
