Two reasons why the media has dropped this story like a hot potato:
(1) The assailant was Hispanic
(2) The victims were White religious Christians

They ran with it for a while claiming that all you need for defense is a can of pepper spray against a bad guy with a gun.
Then came the Georgia shootout in which a deputy shot a bad guy with a gun.

"Two reasons why the media has dropped this story like a hot potato"
The media have tried to put a fig leaf over it, but Meis (the hero) listed "Firearms" as one of his "Likes" on his Facebook page. Listed under that category were the NRA, Remington, and several other gun and outdoor equipment manufacturers. He is also involved in a paintball-type hobby, and is strongly pro-2nd Amendment, and apparently a hunter.
The original article about him in the Seattle Times described him as "outdoorsy," and a later article finally conceded that he was "knowledgeable about guns," as if he had read about them in a magazine or something. The "Firearms" section on his Facebook page was never mentioned. (Can you imagine it not being mentioned if it had been on the SHOOTER's Facebook page? Of course not - that fact would have virtually defined the shooter.)
