If you want to teach kids how to speak English, read about LBJ's tenure as a teacher in Cotulla. TX. Johnson knew how to do it and did it well.
Or if you want a fictionalized account, read how Goro Sakagawa - a Japanese immigrant in Hawaii - taught his children to speak English; the account can be found in the “From the Inland Sea” section of James A Michener’s novel HAWAII.

For generations kids from all over the world were taken by their parents to the nearest school——and just left there.

They learned English through immersion-—no pampering.

I taught 1st grade in the 50s and saw it first hand. It was amazing to me how quickly the kids became bi-lingual.They beacame translators for their parents.
