For the hour that Mike McMonagle and his allies stood in protest Thursday outside Gov. Corbett's office in Center City, they were spared from heat and rain. But little else went in their favor.
Drivers paid no attention to the 30 people holding rosaries and signs railing against same-sex marriage. A man spat on the ground at their feet. Soon, they had to share the sidewalk with other protesters - a younger, louder, more organized group.
While McMonagle's group spoke of the need to "defend our children" from nontraditional families, a group from Cook-Wissahickon School brought in actual children to make the case for increased state funding for arts and education.
The school's choir formed neat rows in front of the governor's office, with matching T-shirts and signs, and sang a Katy Perry song.
"You just got to ignite the light and let it shine . . .," the children sang.
"Holy Mary, Mother of God . . .," the protesters prayed louder.
"Cause, baby, you're a firework . . ."
"Pray for us sinners . . ."
McMonagle and his Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania find themselves for the first time on the losing side of the issue. In May, a federal judge overturned the state's ban on same-sex marriage, following a growing trend among courts and legislators, and in public opinion nationwide.
Corbett declined to appeal, sparking ire from McMonagle and others who had campaigned for him.
"It was a bad decision," said Patrick Baker of Malvern. "He should reverse his stand, and if he doesn't, there's no way he'll win the election. We won't vote for him. We'll find another way."
While McMonagle spoke to security about going up to Corbett's office, the group...

That’s right, put it on the ballot in Pa. and see how “little support” it gets.
I bet the teachers knew exactly what they were doing too
Nope. The Muslims will be up next, importing their hareems and pushing for polygamy.
Its all part of the left’s plan to destroy traditional America.
I tend to disagree, I don’t see pedophilia being legalized.
Reason is that pedophila has a more quantifiable impact than gay marriage does. Legalize gay marriage and you have two consenting adults with big smiles on their faces. Any negative impact ends up being societal and somewhat intangible in nature.
With pedophilia you have a sexually molested kid. That’s much more tangible in producing a defined, identifiable victim. Pedophilia being legalized is going to be extremely dangerous for ... pedophiles. You’ll have fathers or other family members of victims, even the victims themselves, taking matters into their own hands. And there will be very few juries willing to convict anyone who kills a known or suspected pedophile (ie jury nullification)
So sad tho it may seem, the current illegality of pedophilia actually benefits pedophiles: if they get caught theres an inherent trust by the victim/victim’s family that the system will work; they end up in jail where they get fed, showers, health care, etc.
In a world where it’s legalized there’s a MUCH better chance of pedophiles ending up dead, probably after some level of torture. With the person doing such claiming temporary insanity or somesuch and walking away scot free.
Homos have shown you will be destroyed for being against them. There is no agreeing to disagree. The homos are bloodthirsty tyrants that want blood. They will destroy your business, your career, and your family. That isa lot to ask of people sometimes.
We're caught in a twilight zone. The situation with our military is a good example. More than any other government agency, the military is being used as a vehicle for social engineering, particularly the gay agenda. But it is still hailed by conservatives as the bedrock of the American way of life.
Gay “marriage” is not about two people at all. It’s about those two people getting absolute control - parental control - over somebody else’s children.
Social engineers are the worst damn thing ever.
They are the eaters of societies.
I am reading now an account of the reign of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. It was all about creating a new social order. About a quarter of the population lost their lives in the madness. I think we’ll see something similar here before long.
Yep.
This is what a social engineer is.
Our country is a train, a social engineer gets behind the controls and drives the train full speed into the end of the line, because the social engineer believes he can make a new and better train out of the wreckage.
These people should be ah...
I’ll leave it at that, and I was not going to saw outlawed.
