A Vermont gun importer is blaming the White House for its laying off of 41 workers because the government blocked its plan to bring nearly $30 million worth of antique, American-made military rifles home from South Korea... Century International Arms to re-import the World War II-era M1 Garand rifles ..
This importation was denied despite our explaining that the denial would harm the company and pointing out that there is no rational, gun-control reason to block the importation of these historic, 70-year-old firearms
...
the South Korean government had been given preliminary approval for the deal last year and the departments of State, Defense and Justice had signed off on it.

The repeatedly stated reason for denying the import of M1 Garands was straight from the Brady campaign.
They claim the rifles take a high capacity magazine...
The denial of import has been hanging around since 2009.
Reminds me of the poem “Pigs is pigs”.
Infuriating
A five-round internal magazine (IIRC) is now considered high capacity??? On what planet?
The term “rational, gun-control reason” is an oxymoron.
Eight rounds, but yeah.
Great news on the anniversary of D-Day.
‘antique’?
SK should have sold them in 2008 back to the US when Bush was Pres.
Without the 8 round clip they are single shot rifles.
On planet Brady actually.
8 round clip is considered a “High capacity magazine”.
That was the reason the State Department gave for denying the import of these rifles in 2009.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
PING!
And why the Governor of New York, Il Duce Cuomo, limited magazines to hold a maximum of seven,........ till the courts found out there were no Seven Clip Magazines currently manufactured in the US.
"OK, gimme the next clip! Yeah, here we go, down in there and OWWWW! MY THUMB!!"
Not suprising at all; and, pretty important that they prevent such imports:
These are very good, long range rifles, easily hitting the _riflemans_quarter_mile_ when used by a true rifleman. What they hit, they take out.
Thanks for the correction. While I was almost sure that the stripper clips (That is the correct term, isn’t it?) I’d seen only held five rounds, I’ve personally never fired an M1. I may have been thinking of the ‘03 bolt action Springfield from WWI.
Yup.
Sfacim II is quite a winner.
