The Republican is challenging Democratic Sen Mark Udall and has been criticized for not favoring a broader path to citizenship for people living in the country illegally.
Gardner's statements, in an interview with The Associated Press, came a day after immigrant rights activists held sit-ins at his office and more than two dozen others. The protests were held over frustrations that House Republicans have bottled up a sweeping immigration bill that the Senate passed last year.
Gardner said he supported securing the border and a guest worker program, but said discussing a pathway to citizenship was "political." He added citizenship for military service made sense.

I’ll bet that old political pest Udall is back in.
Gardner, you’ve got sh!t for brains.
This guy is supposed to be a Republican??
Makes me think of Chauncy Gardner.
“...and in the Spring there is growth...”
He’s must have some REALLY good advisers.
I am OK with a military route to citizenship. We have had foreign nationals in our military for every single year of our history.
You probably overlooked the ‘illegal’ aspect.
I won’t be defending him here anymore. And certainly any donation is out of the question now: I’m really glad I held off to see what he was going to do.
Clearly Mr. Gardner is nothing more than an ordinary, garden-variety principle-free politician whose sole objective is to win an election.
when you have no core values you have no principles to stand upon (I like to think of someone like Ronald Reagan who fit the bill....Ted Cruz seems to as well)
only tangentially related, but the best line I have heard about traitor Bergdahl is:
Obama traded 5 terrorists for one deserter, I’ll trade 12 million Mexicans for one Marine...
But the GOPe decided HE was more electable than Ken Buck.
The pothead state messes it up again
The main aim is to find the most compassionate cases and then grant amnesty to them to get the ball rolling.
Jeff Denham wants citizenship for 12 million illegals but he wants to start with this smaller bill.
I think Tancredo will get more votes than Gardner. Gardner will lose and we will have Ken Buck in his Congressional seat.
I just filled out my ballot w/o a vote for Gardner.
Symbolic, I know, but I’m not about to vote for another pretty-boy with feet of sand.
I’ve had it with these dooshes.
