Info from multiple sources, including Al Jazeera reporting on this, say that at some time during the night, the officers fled the main base, leaving the Conscripts from Western Ukraine to fend for themselves.

Kiev, of course, is claiming a "glorious victory!", claiming the troops fough to the last round. The many videos on Twitter and Youtube show this is clearly not the case.

The rebels have captured a store of weapons, several AFV's, and Several trucks, as well as the base itself.

People are asking why didn’t the Ukrainians bomb the base instead of giving it up to the rebels. Maybe they were too busy attacking civilian targets.

Lugansk Airport being surrounded by rebels with RPG’s and MANPADS. Lugansk Airport Director ordered the runway lights turned out, and the power shut off, to stop a Kiev Transport, supposedly carrying “Special Ops” troops to land.

National Guard has supposedly been in control of the airport until now.
