Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the last known American POW, was freed after five years in captivity an ordeal that began and ended in Afghanistan under a shroud of mystery.
(snip)
The search for Bergdahl began soon after he went missing on June 30, 2009, in the same rugged wilds of southeastern Afghanistan where NFL player-turned-Army Ranger Pat Tillman was killed.
Bergdahls mysterious disappearance from the small military outpost there and the subsequent revelation that he was in enemy hands prompted questions that still linger.
(snip)
One night, after finishing a guard-duty shift, Bowe Bergdahl asked his team leader whether there would be a problem if he left camp with his rifle and night-vision goggles to which the team leader replied yes.
Bergdahl then returned to his bunker, picked up a knife, water, his diary and a camera, and left camp, according to Rolling Stone.
The next morning, he was reported missing, and later that day, a drone and four fighter jets began to search for him.
Weeks of searching turned into months. The military pushed his parents and fellow soldiers to sign nondisclosure agreements. But before everyone signed, a comrade from his unit publicly called on Facebook for Bergdahls execution as a deserter.
Yep. Read the posts on the FB group about him. He deserted plain and simple. I believe he converted to Islam but the only place I have read this is so is in an old Daily Mail article.
anyone have that Facebook link ?
It is my opinion that his parents DID know what he was up to and further, I think his father had a lot to do with it. It is my supposition that his father filled his head with a lot of nonsense about America The Evil and how the muslims were the oppressed victims, etc.
I have no proof but this is my gut reaction after reading about Bergdahl and seeing his father and his weird writings.
I concur. Same gut feeling.
Back in my military days, a friend of mine got sent to an outfit flying recon planes (RB-57Es I think). They were photographing Laos and Cambodia, looking for VC people and equipment being smuggled in. One day they photographed a camp that had obvious westerners in it. There was total frustration during Vietnam that we were never able to rescue any of our POWs. Everyone got very excited that they had found a camp. And it appeared to be pretty easily accessible and not that well guarded.
Everything went totally quiet and the folks that knew about the pictures started getting frustrated. There even a rumor that the brass just didn’t want to spend the time and effort to get these guys out. That would prove to be partially true.
One of the officers eventually sat everyone down and explained things. Green Berets had already penetrated the camp and made contact. All the Americans in the camp had deserted and wanted to stay right where they were at. The higher-ups had decided that they weren’t going to risk our guys lives to rescue people that didn’t want to be rescued anyway.
I’ve never seen any statistics, but I’ve always wondered how many people did that. And I’ve really wondered what they did when the war ended? Did that stay in that pesthole or sneak back into the US someway?
What would the Benghazi survivors have to say if they had not been forced to sign non-disclosures as part of their departure from Libya?
I agree,His Dad fueled his hatred of America
and it will really pi## me off if after all that has come out the Army still promotes him and does not investigate this traitor
No Man Left Behind!!
Oh wait.......
Isn't Baraq Hussein Obama wonderful?
His firt act as president was to totally hide his past by Executive Order.
His second Official act was to apologize to muslims worldwide for not dying quietly.
And now...
He personally releases 7 known muslim killers, in violation of clear federal law, to "rescue" a deserter who willingly, after long planning, deserted to enemy lines because he wanted to reach China.
Doesn't a soldier commit treason, and cease to be a "US soldier" when he flees to enemy lines?
What's with the imbecility of calling him a "prisoner of war?"
Beyond astonishing!
Can they violate the NDA by claiming coercion in signing? Would whistleblowers be protected from such prosecution?
