The sense of pride expressed by officials of the Obama administration at the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is not shared by many of those who served with him -- veterans and soldiers who call him a deserter whose "selfish act" ended up costing the lives of better men.
"I was pissed off then and I am even more so now with everything going on," said former Sergeant Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl's platoon when he went missing on June 30, 2009. "Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him."
Vierkant said Bergdahl needs to not only acknowledge his actions publicly but face a military trial for desertion under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
A reporter asked Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel Sunday whether Bergdahl had left his post without permission or deserted -- and, if so, whether he would be punished. Hagel didn't answer directly. "Our first priority is assuring his well-being and his health and getting him reunited with his family," he said. "Other circumstances that may develop and questions, those will be dealt with later."
Following his release from five years of captivity in Afghanistan on Saturday, Bergdahl was transferred to a military hospital in Germany.

And those soldiers are correct. Traitors ought to be shot
Not good for the feel good Obama narrative.
“...Many of Bergdahl’s fellow troops — from the seven or so who knew him best in his squad, to the larger group that comprised the 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division — told CNN that they signed nondisclosure agreements agreeing to never share any information about Bergdahl’s disappearance and the efforts to recapture him....”

This is the same silencing protocol that the demonic Obama administration (and their subservient political generals in the military) have been following in Benghazi. I wonder if Bergdahl is being interrogated in Germany or is being given his “cover story” by the Obama Regime’s operatives?
Does this approach ring a bell with anyone else?
“Ill reserve judgement until I hear more.”
Hear hear, I find the level of vitriol here disturbing.
I know a CLOSE friend of the Bergdahls. I know they are being misrepresented on this board; badly.
As for Bowe, I don’t know what happened, but how about we wait until we know for sure? I think he wanted to be rescued. I heard news reports that he tried to escape more than once. That doesn’t sound like someone who voluntarily joined the Taliban.
” I feel for his family who only want their son/brother back. “
This even from the anonymous commenter accusing Bowe of deliberate desertion (may be true, I don’t know, I just don’t like to ASSUME it’s true. The anonymous commenter also seems to assert that Bowe kind of lost it, mentally)
I really hate to see his parents insulted so repeatedly on FR tonight.
My commendations to the six or more who lost their lives looking for Bowe. That is nothing but a shame, but it may or may not have been Bowe’s fault. If he lost his mind or got captured, it’s probably not his fault. If he deserted on purpose, yes, then it’s on him. But can we make these conclusions based on nothing but anonymous comments? Anyone can make an anonymous comment.
I want you as my judge if I ever go on trial for murder.
“I want you as my judge if I ever go on trial for murder.”
I consider people innocent until PROVEN guilty. A pet principle of mine :)
Surprising this coming from CNN.
Active Duty ping.
Sergeant Matt Vierkant isn’t particularly anonymous.
‘Sergeant Matt Vierkant isnt particularly anonymous.”
Fair enough, I have no reason to question his integrity. I was reading “anonymous” accusations, which could be perfectly true.
My main point is, I don’t know, and I don’t think anyone on this board probably does.
I DO know his family’s history and condition, and unless someone has VERY recently changed, they are not Muslims or liberals.
Everyone feels that way but they also have reason logic, and common sense.
Bowe Abdullah Bergdahl, U.S. soldier held by Taliban, was ashamed to be American, emails show, CBS News, June 8, 2012 AP) WASHINGTON Emails an American soldier reportedly sent to his parents before he was captured by the Taliban three years ago suggest he was disillusioned and considering deserting. Bowe Bergdahl told his parents he was ashamed to even be American and was disgusted with the U.S. mission in Afghanistan and with the Army, according to emails quoted in Rolling Stone magazine.
My mind followed similar thinking to yours. Not sure we’re right, but given who’s involved, chances are at least 50-50.
Absolutely sickening.
Bears to ask, will he now become a Taliban plant living in our country, planning a terrorist attack?
The only good thing about his release is that now he can convicted as a deserter.
