A father whose son was murdered in a California shooting rampage met Sunday with the deranged killers dad in an effort to find common ground over shared grief.
Richard Martinez, whose 20-year-old son, Christopher, was killed in the May 23 bloodbath near Santa Barbara, met in private with filmmaker Peter Rodger, the father of virginal gunman Elliot Rodger.
I have met Peter Rodger, and plan to work together so that other families such as ours will not suffer such as we have, Martinez told the Daily News following the meeting.
This was a private conversation between grieving fathers who have reached common ground, he said.
Elliot Rodger, 22, killed himself after slaughtering six people and wounding 13 in the college community of Isla Vista, near the University of California, Santa Barbara campus.
While details of the meeting between the two heartbroken dads were not disclosed, Martinez said, Weve got a plan and when were ready, well let you know.

“The punk murderer clearly had twisted values. I would want to know more about the fathers involvement in the childs life before we let him off the hook.”
Absolutely right.
The little tyke got mad a family picnic playing games, snuck off and came back with a hunting knife to attack an adult, but was subdued. His intentions were quite clear.
Why do you think a tragedy would make them willing to work with us?
Lol funny..
Could they surrender him to CPS, just to get that dangerous being out the house and away from the other children?
Richard Martinez is s little too ready for prime time. Makes me wonder if Bloomberg has offered money.

Torturing small animals?
Lying about everything?
Obvious lack of empathy and taking delight in the pain of others?
I cannot imagine a 10-year-old being "evil" - maybe disobedient, obstinate, unruly, but not evil.
Regards,
I'm 62 years old and I've only seen his look a few times in my life. You can just see it, not to mention his uncontrollable temper and desire for revenge and animal abuse.
CLIMATE CHANGE!
It’s all about fame and fortune.
How far he actually planned to go might be debated, but he saw a gain in evil.
Play around with the devil’s plan, you get burned.
I’m not here to accuse anything, but would still be curious. Could there be some noted hypocrisy going on in his household. Like adult relatives who make a big point of looking good to the world, but are themselves given markedly to some vice in the household. Kids learn as much from example as from moralizing. “Don’t do as I do, do as I say do” is vain for directing a child in life. Not saying that’s the only way this degree of evil can be fomented, but it’s ONE way. Lack of kindness sometimes has roots that pass through earth.
... ultimately the cure for evil is NOT a negative one. It is a positive one, teach goodness.
One thing about the way goodness expresses itself in the world, is that it has a lot of kindness. It is the opposite of cruel. Some children are sensitive and pick up strongly and even obsess on what we might think a trivial cruelty. When teaching a child not to tag along with the devil, we have to not tag along with the devil ourselves.
And there is a firm distinction between this and the hated mindless liberalism that gets such criticism here. People are afflicted with evil, and yet evil is not presumed to need to be anyone’s master.
I have some sympathy with the situation, even though of course none of this misbehavior can be excused. It needs to be told to stop, and yet that in the name of Love Himself, not the name of anything less. Not the name of how it looks. Not the name of how easy a life is. And certainly not in the name of any form of selfishness, which is like grabbing at a life rope that isn’t tied to anything.
Family appears very normal. I’ve asked all these questions and don’t know what to attribute his evil to. Sometimes crap just happens.
I’ve come to a realization that the “doctrine” of original sin is not woofing. People have baggage from before their earthly existence, baggage that in some mysterious manner was chosen. It isn’t genuinely a “crap happens.” On the other hand, some people can be susceptible to certain pitfalls that most other people might breeze by. It could be that this has to blow up in his face big time before he will be willing to get a grip back on the Lord. But it may also be that he sometimes finds his own self shocking, and that can prove material for patient discussion based on sound theology.
This guy is being amazingly strategic for a man who just lost his son, makes me wonder about him.
In any case, California already has all of the “common sense” gun laws the anti-gun people keep yammering on about - registration, waiting periods, bans on full-capacity magazines, a defacto requirement for a licence to buy a pistol , you name it.
What’s he going to come up with? Clearly he wants an outright ban, but he’s being coy.
