Plane crashes, catches fire at Hanscom Field
A plane headed to Atlantic City crashed on take-off and burst into flames at Hanscom Field in Bedford tonight, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The Gulfstream IV twin-jet plane apparently ran off Runway 11 at 9:40 p.m. and caught fire, the FAA said. Massachusetts Port Authority spokesman Richard Walsh said it was a private plane.
Flames could be seen from Route 128.
There was no word on any injuries. Massport has scheduled a media briefing for 11:25 p.m. at Hanscom Field.
The FAA said it didnt know how many people were on board, which was headed to Atlantic City International Airport in New Jersey.
Walsh said Massport had no information on the condition of the crew or passengers or the cause of the incident.
Massport emergency personnel were responding to the scene. Hanscom Field is now closed.
The FAA said it, along with the NTSB, are investigating the crash.
