(It should be noted here that the U.S. Senate race in Louisiana would come down to a two-candidate runoff if no candidate gets 50 percent of the vote -- a likely outcome. In that case, those other candidates wouldn't be on the ballot anyways.)

Trump picked the wrong state to try and make a point. Since Louisiana is one of the sensible states that does have runoffs in primary elections, if a candidate proves to have little support, the votes he does receive won't prevent voters from picking from top two finishers if no one gets 50%.
