Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell now holds a seven-point lead over Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentuckys U.S. Senate race following last weeks state party primaries.
McConnell earns 48% support to Grimes 41% in the latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Kentucky Voters. Five percent (5%) like some other candidate in the race, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.
The two were tied with 42% support each in late January in Rasmussen Reports first look at the then-hypothetical race.
McConnell, a member of the Senate since 1985, was reelected in 2008 with 53% of the vote. He won the May 20 GOP primary with 60% support in the face of a spirited Tea Party challenge from businessman Matt Bevin. Grimes, Kentuckys current elected secretary of State, captured her partys Senate nomination on the same day with 76% support.
McConnell now has the backing of 76% of Kentucky Republicans and 27% of the states Democrats. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Democrats and 18% of GOP voters favor Grimes. Voters not affiliated with either major political party prefer the Democrat by three points.
Republicans need a net gain of six seats to take control of the U.S. Senate, and Democrats view Grimes candidacy as one of their best chances to take away an existing GOP seat.....

Smart money would be on McConnell, even if he is right less than 15% of the time on the issues. That would be more than Grimes.
I don’t care for mitch but grimes supported Obama. If she’s that stupid, we surely don’t need her.
Kicked in the nuts; 48%. Kicked in the throat; 41%. Great. Go Mitch. Whew. and so forth.
Oh well, he has done a few good things (don't ask me to name them.)
.
Idiots will lock step themselves into another term by this fat larded pig. I hope good conservatives just stay home or go ahead and show how angry they are by voting AGAINST Mitch and electing Grimes
Everyone, well not everyone, usually retires around their sixties—unless you have a pension from a government body allowing you to retire after 25 years. Why is it that elected SERVANTS feel no need to retire? Reid, McConnell, Conyers, et. al., see no reason to ever go away. Please go away, please.
If it weren’t so crucial to hold every GOP seat possible this time around, I’d almost - almost - like to see McConnell lose. As it is, Mitch is better than Grimes who, whatever platform she’s pitching to voters in Kentucy, will end up voting just as flamingly liberal as Babs Boxer and her ilk. There’s really no such thing as a moderate, much less a *conservative*, Democrat at the national level anymore (and they’re pretty hard to find even at the state and local level these days).
See, I knew there was something good about her.
Either way, the rats and libtards win.
I’d LOVE to see McConnell lose. Boehner too. (And Cantor, if we can do it.)
This time around, he really means it!
Even odds on if he gets that goal.
The only time McConnell votes conservative is when it is a show vote that doesn’t matter. Plus he has already said he is going set the rules back so Democrats have more say. I don’t see how losing McDonnell is a loss for conservatism.
I can’t stand McConnell and wouldn’t mind to see him ground into the dust under Grimes.
But I would like to see the Senate go to GOP conservatives.
I wouldn’t even mind McConnell holding on to his seat as long as he would step down from the leadership and get in line behind conservative leadership.
As I predicted, right after the Kentucky primary.....McConnell win easily beat Grimes. I cannot stand Mitch McConnell.....but I cannot stand “any” Democrat more!!! It is as simple as this: The entire Democrat Party must be massively, politically destroyed this coming November, 2014.
POTUS Obama is now a failed, “Lame Duck” .....he is radioactive and should be forced to resign by his own party. That will not happen. So......it is up to everyone of us “conservatives” to vote for every single “Republican” candidate that has won her or his primary!!! End of story!!! We either save the nation by destroying the Democrat Party...or we, and our families go down into the progressive cesspool of failure and destruction of our nation!!!
I don’t like McConnell much either, but I want Harry Reid out of the majority leadership more. Even with squishy RINO concessions, I don’t think Reid will be able to run interference or prop up Obama nearly as effectively if he’s reduced to minority leader status.
Of course, if the GOP were to get a majority even with a McConnell loss, I wouldn’t shed any tears. Like I said, I’m not a fan of his either.
All just MHO, of course.
He opposed Captain McQueeg on campaign finance reform.
The issue isn't dead. Harry Reid wants to repeal the First Amendment. If he succeeds, then may the US go the way of the USSR!
Well, you can't blame him for trying. But he way over-estimated the intelligence of the low-information voter.
Consider the question of whether cock-fighting should be a federal issue or left to the several states. (By venturing into such territory, you are already challenging the IQ of the typical LIV.)
So, there was this farm bill before the Senate, which made it a federal crime punishable by a year in the can and $100k fine for attending a cock-fight (three years and $250K for bringing a minor with). So, what happens? McConnell votes aye!
Bevin thinks, aha! I've got an issue! Obviously, cock-fighting is a state issue! My clueless opponent has proven he does not understand the Constitution by voting to make a federal law against it! Gotcha, Mitch!
(As it happens, cock-fighting has been illegal in Kentucky all along, the USG notwithstanding, f--- 'em.)
So, what does Bevin do?
Why, he makes a speech in favor of states' rights in front of a rally to make cock-fighting legal! LOL! What a doofus!
What does the MSM report? And what does the LIV understand? Why, obviously, that Bevin is a yahoo hayseed extremist who's in favor of cock-fighting!
“I dont see how losing McDonnell is a loss for conservatism.”
I agree but losing that seat is!
