The Great Recession ended in 2009. But millions of Americans remain unemployed, make less than they did before the recession and are stuck in homes valued below pre-recession levels. While the worst seems behind us, the data show that we have a long way to go.
But in a handful of states, the unemployment rate has fallen well below its recession-era apex, home values are up and the median income has risen. And no state has recovered better than North Dakota.
There are plenty of ways to measure the nascent recovery. But lets examine three key indicators: the drop in a states unemployment rate between 2009, when the economy hit rock bottom, and this April; the difference in median income in 2009 and in 2012, the last year for which data is available; and the difference in median home prices before and after the recession, which I estimated by combining data from the Census Bureau and Trulia.com.
The numbers show that North Dakota is rebounding best. The states unemployment rate fell from an already low 4.1 percent to 2.6 percent, the lowest in the nation.

Virtually no unemployment, and six-figure salaries. If I could stand the winter...
“The Great Recession ended in 2009”
Bwahahahahaha. Says who?
However, they do have a winter that is similar to Siberia: l-o-n-g and COLD. SHE moved out here to California in the early 1970's and is still here. She STILL waxes poetic about Fargo. She USED to go "home" to Fargo for summers and Christmas. The summer visits stopped about 30 years ago and the Christmas visits stopped about 20 years ago.
Fargo is wonderful, ESPECIALLY from here in California. :o)
BS!
The recession never ended. We have been and are in a depression.
When an article starts with a lie such as this, I find no reason to continue reading.
Remember that “Great Recession” that we avoided by passing that trillion dollar stimulus package that no one knows exactly where the money went? Luckily for that, it was only a huge jump in unemployment.
North Dakota has the third smallest population right after Vermont and Wyoming, with the smallest.
If North Dakota is SO wonderful why is their population so small??
Weather.
The small population is what makes it wonderful.
In spades....
Plus fewer people begets less infrastructure, which turns people off so there are fewer people which begets less...Ad nauseam.
Which is good. Some people like room to breath. Lots of room.
And windy. I can't imagine 20 below with a 30 mph wind.
Were it not for the weather, I’d be out of CA in a NY minute, but prolly no to someplace really cold.
:)
You’re right.
Ended.. the recession ended?.. When?..
Unemployment ranges from 10% to 20% depending on the area..
Some areas are even worse..
Looks like somebody got hiself inseminated with BULL SPERM and is pregnant with FALSEHOOD...
More like a depression.. the so-called Great Depression had a little more than 10%/15% unemployment..
Liberal democrats and republicans believe whatever they WANT to Believe..

Is that right? The North Dakotans I know say that it's the PEOPLE that make it wonderful.
They are almost all white, middle class and Lutheran.
My N.D. acquaintance used to wax poetic about there being no prejudice. My Swedish friends said that too about Sweden...until those "dirty old Turks" moved in. NOW some, er, rather rude remarks about the Turks are heard. Gee, I wonder why.
Always easy to be "nice" when everyone around you is the same as you. Put some "others" in the mix then ALL OF A SUDDEN, things aren't so rosy.
Hard not to rub it in...after all their years of criticizing California for its "fruits and nuts"==I always added "with flakes in between."
My kingdom to remember how to put up a SCROLL.
It’s the wind that bothers me about that part of the country, but I do like to go there every time I get a chance.
Two reasons for ND’s economic health, one obvious and the other less than obvious: energy and that state bank.
Correct!! Now they need to keep the liberal trash out of the state. If they get a foot hold the state will be ruined.
ND has plenty of liberals already who have controlled the U.S. Senate seats for most of the last half century.
