Buckley had to his credit the accomplishments of a half dozen men. In an era of near complete liberal dominance of American politics and ideas, as a journalist and speaker, Buckley almost single handedly made conservatism intellectually credible. In addition, his founding and guidance of National Review spurred the revival of American conservatism. And near the end, when worn and crippled by illnesses, Buckley persevered and completed two final books of reminisces of Goldwater and Reagan — making for a total output of more than fifty books.
