There are always only about eight or so countries, all from Europe or South America, with any chance to win the World Cup.

All the other teams are just there for decoration and to increase global TV revenue.

England prepare for friendly against Peru
The England national football team will play a friendly against Peru on Friday 30 May in Wembley.

Manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed England have no injury concerns but Southampton left-back Shaw is ill. He is separated from the rest of the team, didn't train on Thursday, but still has a chance of being fit for the match.

This is England's final match before departing for Miami on 4 June to begin final preparations for the World Cup where England will face Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica. In the meanwhile, manager Roy Hodgson will have to decide on his 23-man World Cup squad, this match being the last chance for the players to prove themselves and to book a seat on the flight to Miami next Wednesday.

Saborío suffered the injury in morning training, immediately leaving the field. Costa Rica is in the process of confirming the bone on the outside of his right foot is in fact broken.

Depending on its severity, the injury could require surgery, leaving Saborío with a recovery time toward the end of the 6-12 week window. Even without having to undergo a procedure, the rest required to heal the break would cost Saborío his World Cup.

The 32-year-old striker has 93 career appearances for his national team, recording 32 international goals. During World Cup qualifying, Saborío scored eight times, helping Costa Rica qualify for its third World Cup in four cycles.

The Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica players that England should fear
Álvaro Saborío has been in fine goalscoring form for Real Salt Lake this season, with six goals in 10 games so far, taking his tally over the past two years to 19 in just 28 starts. Only two Costa Ricans have scored more international goals than Saborío, and if there is a goalscoring threat for the minnows in such a tough group, he will carry it.

Fresh criticism of World Cup stadium preparations
FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke on Wednesday voiced fresh criticism of Brazil's World Cup preparations by indicating the northeastern venue of Natal had work to do to be ready for the event starting on June 12.

"Race against the clock. Still lots to be done for World Cup fans and media," Valcke wrote on Twitter after visiting the host stadium in the city, posting a picture showing long rows of skeletal stands waiting to have seats installed.
