Agreed...my theory is (short version) the pilot became a radicalized muslim...took the plane up to a high altitude and depressurized it (killing off the passengers/crew when the O2 ran out)...then went for his "target". We sniffed it out, and, knowing that the non-terrorists were already dead - shot it down.

Thing is - you get bad publicity for shooting down a passenger airliner and how can you prove they were all already dead? So we got the Brits to come up with some Inmarsat crap and sent the hunting party on a wild goose chase while we sneakily cleaned up as much of the floating stuff as possible. Just my guess.

Chances are we will never know.
