SOUTHAVEN, Mississippi -- Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) pulled the old bait-and-switch to avoid a televised CNN interview, reporter Dana Bash says.
Bash tried to interview Cochran for CNN at a Memorial Day event in Vicksburg, MS, but Cochran dodged the interview. His staff was going to head-scratching extremes to avoid talking, Bash reported in a piece posted late Tuesday.
"We tried to catch Cochran after this event," Bash said, while video of Cochran standing on stage for the event played. "But when an aide came out and saw us, they did a bait-and-switch.
"The car they told us Cochran was getting in, screeched away without him, while he snuck out another door to a different car, leaving reporters like us in the dust, unable to talk to the senator, Bash added.
The Jackson Clarion-Ledger, which picked up the story right after CNN on Tuesday evening, noted that Cochrans actions make him look equally as suspicious as how his primary challenger state Sen. Chris McDaniel has handled the response to blogger Clayton Kellys allegedly illicit photographing of Cochrans wife Rose.
The Clarion-Ledgers Sam Hall wrote that Cochran also refused to sit down with the newspapers editorial board for an interview.
Cochran's staff has repeatedly refused to set a date for an editorial board meeting, Hall wrote. We're still working on a date, is the gist of any answer they give us. Such dodging makes us and voters wonder what he has to hide. Is he afraid of tough questions? Or is his staff handling him too much because they are afraid of what he might say? My guess: both!
Cochran has similarly avoided interviews with Breitbart News his campaign staff ignored requests and most other media outlets, and refused to debate McDaniel ahead of the primary.

JT yesterday kept stating that McDaniel was more interested in giving a satellite interview than the Supertalk Interview and speaking to Mississippians but then again, the National News media didn't brutally treat McDaniel on the air either.
Are you in MS? What’s the feel there? Do you think McDaniel can pull it out?
The entitled MSM is dissed.
Good.
Cuck FNN.

FINALLY!!!. The MSM is going after Obama.
Oh, wait minute...
Nope...they’re just after another Republican.
Why expose yourself to an “interview” by a representative of an enemy? A little creative editing and they make you look like what they wish.
Thad will keep doing the dodge-and-weave until the primary. Too many unanswered questions about the taping incident at his wife’s nursing home, and they cast more suspicion on Cochran than his opponent.
In recent days, we learned that Thad’s campaign knew of the incident and sat on it for two weeks before calling in law enforcement. As I pointed out on another thread, they notified the cops at the end of a bad week when the Mississippi media was dominated by reports on Thad’s living arrangements in D.C. Turns out that Mr. Cochran “rents” a room from his longtime executive assistant, the same woman who has accompanied him on dozens of official trips around the world.
In Democratic circles, Cochran would get a badge of honor. But a lot of Mississippians (from all walks of life), frown on the idea of a politician acquiring a new girlfriend while his wife is fighting her final battle against dementia. But with revelation of the taping incident, the narrative changed and Cochran got a wave of sympathy from the public.
But McDaniel had nothing to gain from releasing a videotape of Cochran’s invalid wife. There were a lot of questions about the “early” call from McDaniel’s campaign to the Cochran staff (assuring them they nothing to do with it) before the story hit the local media. But it has since been revealed that another blogger got wind of the scandal and had a post on the episode ahead of the Jackson TV stations and the Clarion-Ledger. McDaniel’s team learned about the taping from the blog, and not because of their involvement.
On the other hand, Thad Cochran had much to gain by using the incident to his own advantage. Clearly, Senator Cochran has a lot to explain regarding that two-week delay in reporting the nursing home taping to police. And there are a lot of questions about where he actually lives. He claims his official residence is a log cabin in Oxford, MS. But I have family in Oxford and they tell me you never see Thad in town unless there’s a football game at Ole Miss or some other official function. And he usually in town just long enough for the event.
He’s senile and they’re trying to hide it.
Hes senile and theyre trying to hide it.

BINGO —— I think you’re right on that. He wanted to do the right thing and retire at the end of his current term, but the GOPe persuaded him to run again (to avoid the likelihood of his replacement being “Tea Party”). Mentally, he’s likely not nimble enough to dance around all the personal corruption into which he has drifted. As it is, he has devolved into being a puppet for the GOPe elite and would, in the Senate, vote as he was told to vote.
End the corruption...VOTE FOR & SUPPORT MCDANIEL.
What do you expect from a DC insider?
This needs to be played up.
McDaniel had nothing to gain from releasing a videotape of Cochrans invalid wife.
But Cochran did.

This is suspicious. Who knew Thad Cochran was that much of a sleazeball? And there are a lot of questions about where he actually lives. He claims his official residence is a log cabin in Oxford, MS. But I have family in Oxford and they tell me you never see Thad in town unless theres a football game at Ole Miss or some other official function. And he usually in town just long enough for the event.
I see a commercial here, if someone wants to make it.

Cochran, Miss. Opponent Trade Attacks in Video Scandal
Polling on the race is mixed. A Polling Company survey taken earlier this month found McDaniel leading by four points. A Harper poll taken in April found Cochran leading by 17.

I agree...there’s also the matter of his constantly-changing addresses; by my count, he has claimed about a half-dozen different residences over the past decade, both in D.C. and in Mississippi. Apparently, he sold his home in Alexandria, VA back in 2003 (shortly after his wife was placed in a nursing home), and took up with Ms. Webber shortly after that, since her $1.7 million home was listed as his address on campaign filings for years.
I’d also like to know how a Congressional aide got a mortgage for a property worth almost $2 million. Maybe she bought it years ago, and it’s already paid off. But on the other hand, if the house was purchased in recent years, she probably has monthly mortgage payments in the $7-8,000 range. That means she’s paying about 2/3 of her monthly, pre-tax salary ($12,000) for housing, well above the ratio that most mortgage lenders will approve.
Of course, she does get that monthly rent check from Thad, and he has friends in the banking industry. With connections like that, I’m sure Ms. Webber got a really good deal on her mortgage.
You’re right: the commercial practically writes itself. It would be very interesting to look at the property records for her address in D.C., and see how long she’s been there, what the purchase price was, etc. Again, for all I know, she may have bought the house years ago and is enjoying the run-up on property values in D.C. But if her home purchase coincided with Thad’s address change, it raises even more questions.
One more reason that Thad is suddenly shy about speaking to the press. However, the press is more interested in Chris McDaniel’s attendance at a fund-raiser held by one of the sleazeballs who videotaped Mrs. Cochran in the nursing home than the Senator’s interesting living arrangements.
McDaniel blew it on that one...his staff claims that a Mississippi blogger posted the item on Friday night, several hours before it was picked up by the Jackson TV stations, the AP and the Clarion-Ledger. The blogger apparently has no ties to the video-taping incident and reportedly learned of the incident from law enforcement, which had been contacted by the Cochran campaign after a two-week delay.
That’s the answer—or at least, it should be. Answer the question, then segue into criticizing Cochran’s record.
I’ve said the GOP is the only political party on the planet, which believes in not communicating with voters. That’s the way to victory. Am I crazy or is Thad Cochran proving me correct?
