my daughter-in-law is taking a sociology course taught by a liberal feminist who also has a reputation for being very communist and was forewarned by fellow students that it may be difficult.
Incidentally, this I like: We are not talking about all white people, or you white people in general, she told them. We are talking about whiteness as a system of oppression. It says absolutely nothing yet covers a multitude of matters. No matter what happens "the whiteness [of the]system" can be blamed.
LOL.that does not narrow it down.
I took public speaking (engineering requirement) from a prof who "disliked engineers, and white male engineers especially" (her words, to the class, first day of attendance).
It was particularly frustrating to do "A" work (I like public speaking) and get lousy grades, while others in the class would sleep through the semester and get 'A's". I got my "C" that was required and got out. I suppose it was a good lesson in power, and in the worthlessness of some people who enjoy abusing it.
Now that I'm graduated, and doing OK, I've wanted to go back and see her. Find out if she's still a miserable #@$@$, going nowhere and accomplishing nothing, and teaching a class that no one wants to attend. :-) Success is the sweetest revenge.
