A $13K deductible??? Whoa! With $9K per year premiums that’s $22K out of pocket before the insurance pays a dime. (not counting any co-pays) Insane!
I pay about $1200 a month now (self employed, family of five), and the $13k deductible. When I hear people say “insane” (like you), I’m wondering what you do for insurance? But I figure most folks have a job where “the Man” is paying, so the costs are hidden. But the costs are still there - and someone (all of us?) will pay, in the end.
Eh - reminds me of working for a small company where I wasn’t getting paid much as we were getting it started. The boss said “Don’t worry - you’ll get your reward in the end.”
“That’s okay - I’m getting it in the end already!”
Yup. We saw about the same thing. Didn't really see the point, and made me wish for Catastrophic Coverage again.
Mrs WBill and the kids were self-insured up until this year....I didn't like putting all of my eggs in one basket, in case I got laid off. Then Obamacare came along and the ins company did away with their insurance plan. It was re-instated after BO's temper tantrum, but too late, and at a ridiculously inflated cost.
Now, they're on my plan at work. We're OK for this year. I've no idea what will happen next year, but I'm sure that it will not be good. Or cheap.
I don't blame the ins companies. They need to stay in business. I blame BO - insurance wasn't cheap prior to BOcare, but it was affordable. Now it's neither affordable, nor what I need, and docs who take various plans are harder and harder to find.
Surely, this is the fastest way to destroy what was the best healthcare system in the world, and anyone who thinks differently is a fool.
First off, I must commend you on your excellent math skills. :)
$22,000. Not many Americans have that kind of money hanging around. The result of this is that if one has a major illness, it will wipe that person/family out. Food prices are soaring! Gasoline is being held artificially high by this administration. I think it is safe to say that bankruptcies will be up. Obama may end up with his income equality after all with everyone being poor.
The ultimate irony about the un-afordable care act. They sold it to the low information voter based on telling them that such a large percentage of bankruptcies are caused by huge medical bills. And it doesn't solve that AT ALL. How many families could take a $22K hit before their coverage kicked in? It's basically like not being covered period.
I ran our numbers through CoveredCa. Our total of premiums and deductible for just hubby and me.........almost $30,000. Now that’s affordable!!!!!!!!
