David Dewhurst’s campaign has released one final web ad ahead of the Tuesday runoff election, a country-disco mashup of a music video entitled “Lt. Gov. You Gotta Love.”
The song was written and performed by Creative Director Ben Price – the same staffer behind the campaign’s “Frozen” themed web ad – and features lyrics like “Saving ladies/Protecting Babies/The most pro-life candidate.” In a May 19 interview, Dewhurst told the Chronicle he was not comfortable with Price’s Disney-themed parody that mocked challenger Dan Patrick. But he said his younger staff members found it funny, prompting him to release the video.
The Dewhurst-Patrick race has been especially rancorous, with ads and personal attacks often bordering on the bizarre. Dewhurst faces Patrick, a state senator from Houston and radio personality, in the Republican runoff for lieutenant governor Tuesday. Patrick bested the 11-year incumbent in the March GOP primary by 13 points, pushing the two into this month’s runoff. The winner of Tuesday’s runoff will be pitted against state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, in the November general election.

An establishment politician often believes there is no problem that cannot be solved if enough money is thrown at it.
Sign of desperation, I noticed after a Michael Berry (Houston and beyond Talk Radio) pointed out that every Patrick ad was pro-Patrick and every Dewhurst ad was anti-Patrick, he finally run a few ads talking about himself.
I thought Stone Temple Pilots, “Creep” would be perfect for Mitt Romney. It certainly fit the tone of the Romney campaign.

After today’s election, this RINO Dewhurst will hopefully go away forever.
Most of us Texas Repubs were shocked at the low level of slash and burn attack ads that Dewhurst was willing to unleash on Ted Cruz two years ago and now Dan Patrick. Voters just got fed up with Dewhurst and determined to rid outselves of him.
Query why a 12-year incumbent is not willing to run on his own record instead of conducting an ugly, negative campaign against his opponents.
