I had a couple of HR guys tell me (off the record, of course) that businesses felt safer hiring white guys because, if they didn't work out, it was a lot less complicated to fire them.

Of course, all things being equal, they would prefer to hire a nonwhite candidate for the extra diversity points they gained. But, in the real world, all things are seldom equal.
