Then check out southern Ohio, too. In terms of taxes, Tennessee has both Ohio and Kentucky beat. There is no state income tax, and it is made up by a sales tax. There are also property taxes, licenses, fees...but those are common to the 3 states as well.
I don't know if there are Amish communities in Tennessee. I like the hills better than the plains, so I'd go central to east Tennessee, but I've got to admit, Eastern Kentucky near Maysville is absolutely beautiful country.

That whole area is just beautiful. I have been a desert rat for fifty years; it is time for me to be where it is green now!
I also prefer the hills/mountains. So I think we are concentrating on the Tri-Cities area in East Tennessee.
But not being from there, I thought I would get input from others who actually know the area or maybe somewhere different that I have not even thought of.
