I can see him being nervous. I’m guessing here, but it’s likely that if he had been held on a mental evaluation, he still have been released, and he still might have done the killings.
They won’t be able to distract too much with the blame on guns since he killed three people with a knife, and one person with a car. That leaves two killed with a gun by my math.

O.K. It just does not ring true to me at all. I get the impression of a screen play for a really bad slasher film and not a manifesto.
