Do we WANT aggressive profiling or do we NOT WANT aggressive profiling?
Remember the NJ mom that regrettably called state troopers regarding a gun being transported in her son’s car. The son was thrown in jail for no good reason.
I don’t think mental illness gets the attention it deserves, but how a reasonable and adequate system would function is beyond my imagination.
With a single exception, every school massacre in US history occurred following the passage of the Community Mental Health Act of 1963. A reasonable and adequate system would prevent individuals who are clearly a danger to themselves and to others from harming themselves and harming others.
Or at least that's how it was done until 1963. (Since politicians have more effective ways to use taxpayer's money to buy votes than spending it on mental health, and since the ACLU will fight tooth and nail to allow the mentally ill their "rights" to harm themselves, I doubt we will revisit the 1963 bill. But we should, and would if we really wanted to begin fixing the problem.)
