Romney endorsed Ernst a few weeks before Palin, at least publicly. Certainly there might have been behind-the-scenes stuff going on.

[D]o you know which of the two endorsed LTC Ernst first and who was the “me, too!” of the pair? Romney endorsed Ernst March 5 and Palin only on March 26, after the hog castration ad. The Ernst-Romney relationship goes back at least to 2007. Palin and Ernst only met this month.
