Wendy McElroy writes: On May 7, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) posted a notice on the government's Federal Business Opportunities site in order to solicit bids on an undisclosed number of submachine guns. The notice read, in part,
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Inspector General, located in Washington, DC, pursuant to the authority of FAR Part 13, has a requirement for the commerical [sic] acquisition of submachine guns, .40 Cal. S&W, ambidextrous safety, semi-automatic or 2 shot burts [sic] trigger group, Tritium night sights for front and rear, rails for attachment of flashlight (front under fore grip) and scope (top rear), stock-collapsilbe [sic] or folding, magazine - 30 rd. capacity, sling, light weight, and oversized trigger guard for gloved operation. Speculation On The Why of Submachine Guns
When President Abraham Lincoln established the USDA in 1862, he called it the People's Department. The USDA website lists its current areas of authority as: Assisting Rural Communities; Conservation; Education and Research; Food and Nutrition; and, Marketing and Trade. The agency has over 100,000 employees. Why do employees of the People's Department need semi-automatic machine guns to do their job? What would the job description be?
Second Amendment sites have speculated that the most likely recipients are agents of the US Forest Service (USFS) Law Enforcement & Investigations unit; the USFS falls under USDA control. Although this seems likely, there are also counter-indications. The solicitation notice makes no mention of the USFS, and those agents are already armed. The Wikipedia site on USFS states Special agents are normally plainclothes officers who carry concealed firearms, and other defensive equipment... Moreover, the weapon being solicited is typically used for close quarter operations, such as inside

Congress? Or are they all weaponeered up too?
The short answer is: They don’t.
To shoot cows?
I hear that there is presently a lot of ‘stalking’ going on in the corn fields of the mid-west.
What on earth is a "semiautomatic machine gun"?
At the same time the government wants to abolish the second amendment and take away our guns. Something rotten is going on here.
The most possible charitable answer is “meth labs”.
But only if the cow appears to be advancing in a "threatening manner". Then the USDA officers must shoot. Because they would "fear for their safety".
or can't I say that in a public forum ?
Why is there no quantity of guns stated?
“Let’s see here,” the President said, pulling a folded sheet of copy paper from the pocket of his suit coat. “In addition to the FBI, Secret Service, and DBA, which you probably already knew about, employees of the Environmental Protection Agency are now authorized to carry guns. As are employees of the Departments of Agriculture, Education, Immigration, Labor, Energy, and Commerce. To that, add the Bureau of Land Management, the FAA, the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the State Department. And, of course, the IRS,” the President added. “People from those agencies may be armed anywhere in the country.
Including, as I said, while they are traveling on commercial airlines.
Surprised?” “’Horrified’ would be more accurate.”

militant vegetables!!?
We don’t need the department of Agriculture. They do not grow any crops
OR
wielding gardening shears or a Pop Tart eaten into the shape of a gun.
I surmise there are people being hired (men) in these various largesse departments which are not typical hires; no, they are in fact 0bummer’s new military, ones who WILL fire upon citizenry if he orders it. They hire first, let the “hirees” determine what weaponry they want, then they get it. Does this jibe with the 200+ high ranking military leaders he’s summarily fired for “infractions”? Yep. Welcome to the silent coup.
