“Sipple’s mental and physical health sharply declined over the years. He drank heavily, gained weight to 300 lb (140 kg), was fitted with a pacemaker, and became paranoid and suicidal. The incident brought him so much attention that, later in life, while drinking, he would express regret towards grabbing Moore’s gun. Sipple, who was wounded in the head in Vietnam, was also diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic according to the coroner’s report.”
Sipple really got a raw deal. Not only because he never got recognition for saving a president’s life, and not only because Milk and the media slime were unwilling to respect his privacy, but also because, in all probability, no one ever told him in sincerity and empathy that he needed treatment for his same-sex attraction disorder.
“no one ever told him in sincerity and empathy that he needed treatment for his same-sex attraction disorder.”
Suggesting that it is not normal will probably get you fired or sued, depending on circumstances. I believe they have changed the psychiatric diagnostic book now to indicate it’s normal.
