Among the themes of second-guessing and deep regret that are emerging of rubble of last night's election is the thought that the Senate could be under the control of Republicans right now if weren't for their habit of running supremely unlikable candidates. It was bad enough that Mitt Romney was soundly defeated for the White House, but what hurts even more right now is that Republicans, who at one point had hoped for a sweep of both houses of Congress, actually lost ground in the upper chamber. Depending on your definition of a poachable, that makes as many seven races over the last two election cycles that could have been theirs for the taking.

Winning the Senate is not the important thing, it's the only thing.
“Winning the Senate is not the important thing, it’s the only thing. “
I agree completely.
The GOP-E proved that last time they held the Senate.

Republicans actually want to win? That’s great! When did this finally happen?
Why?
Which ever party wins the senate is irrelevant, because the federal government is still going to control the senate.
What would make a big difference is if state government controlled the senate via appointment of senators as opposed to dumb and greedy people who have no idea what they are doing electing the same evil people to the senate.
If the pubbies do win the senate this go around, how many milliseconds will it take for them to offer some sort of ‘power sharing agreement’ with the dims?
How’s that obamacare working out for ya there Dashiell?
Yeah he’s a wit but he is correct.
And winning the Senate is definitely preferable, but it is 2016 that matters. That is when the GOP will lose 7-10 seats and stands little chance at the WH.
No legislation is passing anyway so who holds the Senate in 2014 is not nearly as big a deal.
And I agree with you 100% ... you MUST know what the other side is saying even if you don’t like it.
So that’s why the GOP-e has declared war on the conservative wing of the base?
Tactical brilliance—NOT!
I think Mark Levin suggested a possible solution for the No Spin McConnell problem
Right! They just want to protect their lands and slaves!
Lol. We had the Senate. And the House. And the WH,. From 2000-2006. We got the Patriot Act. No thanks. It doesn't matter to elect the R's, if they ain't listening to us. Thus far, they haven't. So, it's time to walk.
Yep, put the Senate back under the control of GOPe. I have no desire to return to a Legislative Branch doing their best to be "compassionate conservatives."
Exactly. I voted for Bevin. McConnel won. I’ll vote for the democrat in November. It’s more important to purge the party of these guys than win the senate.
You’ll never “purge” the GOP. They are too entrenched.
Time to go “UKIP”.
“Lunacy is not a policy.”
You cannot talk about 50%+ of the people in your party in that manner and expect to have a party. Moderates have never rallied behind conservative nominees and frequently boycott them. Increasingly, conservatives will do the same to moderates.
We don’t have a party.
Levin, indeed did.
An idea I like very much.
tough choices... should conservatives be blames for taking Pubs down or Democrates when the Pubes lose to them?
McConnell and the GOP already have tools(rules) available to them to use
such as the filibuster. If they won’t fight now, what makes you believe they
will fight if they are the majority?
