The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs health care campuses in West Haven and Newington were limiting access and were on lockdown status Tuesday morning because of a “potential threat,” to the West Haven campus.
The VA confirmed the lockdown status in a press release Tuesday morning, saying the threat was made by an individual.

One of my female cousin’s father was a WWI and WWII vet and in his final years in his late 70’s, he got miserable treatment.
My cousin was unable to rectify the shabby treatment, and lucky for her and her Dad, her state elected a Republican Senator. She had help campaign for his election. She had a picture of her with the new senator.
I suggested that she send a letter with that picture to the rat in charge of the VA where her dad was being miss treated and couldn’t get an appointment with a specialist assigned to the hospital with a copy of the picture with her and the new senator, urging the director to get on the ball. She copied her new senator without the picture.
Before the new senator was sworn in, her dad got the appointment with the specialist. She went with her dad and carried a picture of the new Senator and her. Her dad never had a problem after that.
Or certain whistle-blowers, I mean “criminals” can’t access their files.
The next time a clown car filled with a dozen illegals rolls over 20 times in CA, Arizona or Texas, they’ll rush to their aid and tie up several hospital trauma centers and treat them for years...Just as they do with hundreds of thousands of other illegals all over the country.
All this while our military veterans down at the VA centers sit in hallways for days, weeks or longer waiting for badly needed treatment..
This should be enough to make America recoil...
Not that there probably wasn’t a threat of some type, but this seems to be standard procedure every time federal negligence or corruption is dragged out into the light. The agency involved nearly always tries to deflect criticism by casting itself as a victim. And the media, of course, obediently leap to action to fill the airwaves with hand-wringing about the “threat” in order to push the actual problem (neglecting veterans in this case) out of the spotlight. Nothing new unfortunately.

My wife and I have wondered why we see so many ads will Biden’s wife and the Wookie yakking about honoring our vets and the Follywood weirdos talking about “We got your 6, Vets”.
Now, we know, they have been short changing our vets while running the tv PR BS Ads to appear that they are backing our vets.
Probably spend more on illegals every week in this country than we do yearly for our vets.

I guarantee it wasn’t designed for the latter. When it works out that way, just remember that it’s a government run program with all of the frailties of every other government run program. I know plenty of people who work very hard within the VA system to make it work for veterans, and who are absolutely committed to veterans. When they are prevented from doing so by bureaucratic complexity and incompetence they are very upset, and very frustrated.
I’m not saying that the VA cannot and hasn’t suffered from politicians who aren’t fans of the military, but it definitely wasn’t designed with that in mind.
Agree. I think America IS recoiling, over this.
Hannity played a soundbite of Candidate 0, in ‘08, complaining about what a sad state our VA hospitals were in and how he was going to fix all that. LIAR! It’s only gotten worse. He’s purposely ignored our brave heroes’ medical needs.
....Or until revolt takes place, which I predict will happen.

Let me say that I’ve been treated good by the VA. It is hard to get an appointment and it’s inconvenient to go there though. The level of coverage you get is based on your net worth, and as a senior on medicare, medicare pays first anyway. I also have retirement insurance as well. Their coverage is crap, but that’s not part of this discussion. I happen to have a high net worth, (90+ percentile) So the VA doesn’t pay much for me...
You can also get the best of care in a hospital if you have the right coverage. Why not just issue a card to vets, and just let them use regular hospitals instead of having to wait so long?
The opposite is true... I got a letter from the VA the other day that stated that unless it was life threatening, they would not pay if you went to a Non-VA hospital. This makes no sense if there are waiting lists at the VA. That equates to substandard coverage.

Yup. The doctors and nurses for the most part are good. But almost everyone in here is dumping on them for the screwups of the bureaucrats.

when the casinos in Connecticut first opened in the 80’s, the main roads leading to the casinos were lined with staties.
i’m sure that the first inclination was to gouge on detail ot, but in addition, even when I had occasion to ask questions when not even in a motor vehicle violation, they were some of the nastiest, wiseasses you could ever meet.

I absolutely agree, and have since the first time I set foot in a VA.
I wrote on a related thread the other day that I rotated through several VA hospitals during training, and back then some of the VA hospitals I was at provided absolutely substandard care (in some instances, it was criminal). It was a combination of the attitudes of ‘guaranteed a job for life’ government employees (receptionists, technicians, nurses, you name it), the ridiculous bureaucratic hurdles involved in ordering tests etc., and that some VA hospitals had their own residency physicians who were almost all foreign medical grads - some of whom were less than committed to the long hours required as a resident back then (many were committed, and good, so I don’t want to paint with too broad a brush).
I have since seen VA hospitals that are run generally very well, with very committed staff, and so find it almost ironic that when VA hospitals were at their worst they were getting a pass, and now that they’ve improved, they’re finally getting the scrutiny they should have gotten long ago.
That said, it is my firm belief that government-run medicine is always going to be less than the US private system, by far. Unfortunately, the private system is now headed in the same direction, thanks to the same government involvement.

It’s not a good idea to tell an armed society that they
are or eventually will be on a death list whether they like
it or not.
VA hospitals are like any other hospitals: some are quite good, others pretty bad. They all have hospital directors that may prioritize veterans needs above all and others whose priority is redecorating their office and otherwise feathering their own nest. Some employees are poor, while I’ve seen others buy coats for vets out of their own money.
