Seems he means (per the story) the guy's "assault weapon". Open carry, a la a politely holstered handgun, in a restaurant is one thing; hauling a good-sized rifle therein is something else. Yesterday, I bought a good sized ax at Menard's, carried it on my shoulder all the way to the cashier and then to my car in the parking lot.
Not any different than carrying a "good sized rifle".
If businesses are going to ban guns, they should ban all tools.

Buying a product sold in the store and carrying it out is one thing.
Walking into a restaurant carrying an axe would understandably persuade some of the clientele to clear out.
Context matters.
