Learning the laws of economics the hard way [Minimum Wage]
QandO ^ | Bruce McQuain

Tis the season of minimum wage hike demands and fast food protests again. Frankly I don’t have a problem with wage hikes … if they’re voluntary. I do have a problem with coerced wage hikes, however. And that’s precisely what any rise in the federal minimum wage amounts too. It is feel good legislation that uses the force of government to coerce businesses into paying employees more for jobs the businesses don’t deem worth the cost imposed. It is feel good legislation that religiously and studiously avoids the laws of economics.

The states are setting their own minimum wage, WTF does everything have to be controlled and run by Washington DC?

Like health care?

I mean the libs deny responsibility for everything they break.

As states set themselves up by raising their minimum wage, companies (and workers) have the ability to vote with their feet. Federal fiat makes it necessary to vote on a boat, so to speak.

We must ALL be equally miserable.

How about education? Good luck finding that in the Constitution where it is a fed responsibility. Yet both Pubs and Rats came up with the Dept. of Education.

Even easier is internet purchases from other states without sales tax,

A few traitors joined Dems last year to try to screw that up.

The proper way to raise wages is to allow the economy to improve so that labor is in greater demand. When this happens employers have to raise wages to attract workers.

It’s good to know the economic arguments against the minimum wage, bu wee need to hit the fairness argument head on — the government has no business picking Peter’s pocket to pay Paul when Peter has stolen nothing from Paul and Paul is not forced to work for Peter.

What’s missing in this “debate” is that the government does not have the right to say anything about what an employer pays an employee.

I saw a thread, which I have not read, that said Micky D’s has ordered some 7000 touch cashier systems. Am I to assume these are for the customer to use and pay with CC - no worker bee intervention required for order and payment?

Is Micky D’s gearing up to cut staff due to minimum wage hikes? Sorta sounds like it.

Would make a good test bed for deployment here in US. The euro’s are already used to more customer oriented POS systems.
