I have a very good Black friend. We have traveled together. When he goes into any public place “like a convenience store,” he “greets” every other Black he passes with the words “Hi N-——er, how’s it goin’.” With Blacks, amongst themselves the word isn’t a pejorative term, it’s a “greeting.” I’ve seen him greet his own grown children using the term.

What if you used it as a “greeting”? Why is that suddenly a bad thing? Who makes these rules anyway and why are we obliged to follow them?
