The original Qatar bid specified that the outdoor stadiums and training facilities would feature state-of-the-(future)-art air conditioning that would maintain the field and seating temperature at no more than 26C (or 78.8F, which is still hot).

The firm Populous (new Yankee Stadium, London’s 2012 Olympic Stadium) helped Qatar with its 2010 bid for the 2022 World Cup. Qatar June temperatures reach 50C/122F.

By 2011, Populous' director said the air conditioning was not feasible and that traditional Arabic 'wind tunnel' methods for cooling should be used, which 'could' keep temperatures in the stadium and pitch as low as 30C/86F (riiiiiight).

3,000 deaths among workers is low. The reports to date are an estimated 4,000 deaths by 2022, and Qatar is already denying the number of deaths reported by the countries supplying the construction workers.
