For those whove read my screeds via TownHall.com or via my own website, ClashDaily.com, you know that Im an unapologetic cheerleader for hunting. Its not the only thing I write about, but OMG when I do, boy do I gush like a schoolgirl.
However, not everyone is cool with hunting like the planet's population used to be since the dawn of man. Hunters are becoming a rare breed in this increasingly wussified, paranormal culture of political correctness. Thanks to Disney movies, hunting nowadays is about as popular as a bacon sandwich is to a Boko Haram.
Yep, that which used to be a given within our American milieu is barely tolerated by the intolerant tolerant amongst us. If youre a hunter, or a non-hunter who gets the role of hunting for the conservation of both land and species, then youre looked upon by the ubiquitous bunny lovers with a glare that is one part bewilderment and one part disdain.
So why do the anti-hunters and those whore punch drunk with their propaganda hate hunting and hunters so much? Heck if I know. But Im pretty certain it has not as much to do with actually killing and eating animals as it does with owning firearms. Sure the PETA freaks will caterwaul that its all about them not digging us putting the bam to Bambi, but if you follow the money youll probably find out that theyre funded by a Leftist agenda that has a bigger game plan in play.
The control freaks, you see, arent comfortable when the people they are trying to oppress own weapons, so they have to whiz on activities which afford these serfs the skill and the tools to say, Back the blank off. But thats a topic for another book. (Matter of fact, I covered that topic in my last book, The Sandy Hook Massacre: When Seconds Count, Police Are Minutes Away. What a coincidence.)
The group that I do not get, who should know better, whore becoming increasingly anti-hunting at the speed of sound are Christians, or at least those who call themselves Christians.
Youd think that Christians would have as their guide the Scripture framing their lifes glide path but alas nah. The reason being? Well, its primarily predicated upon Christians not reading the Bible, in its entirety, but rather getting their worldview from some metrosexual pastor who takes his cue from Shakira, or some hipster twit that has a fawn for a pet, or some commie running their Poli-Sci class at Tallahassee Junior College, or some lesbian misandrist whos decided shes going to rail against everything Rosie ODonnell doesnt do. In my humble opinion, its a shame and a sin that Christians look to Justin Bieber more than Jeremiah for lifes answers.
I can't begin to count the multitudinous times I have heard from the squeamish brethren, stoked on feelings versus facts, who tell me that Jesus is mad at me, and that Im the bad guy, for simply carrying out the covenant blessing of being a hunter.
However, if (and thats a big if), if the Christian did look to Scripture and pay particular attention to the passages within the Bible that address the topic of hunting, then theyll walk away thinking not only is hunting animals tolerated, but it is endorsed by God (Gen.9:1-3). And thats exactly what my new book Rise, Kill And Eat: A Theology of Hunting From Genesis to Revelationis about: to prove that God, from Genesis to Revelation, is extremely cool with hunters and hunting.
Ill go out on a biblical limb and claim right off the bat that you cannot show me, through the balance of the Bible, that the God of the Scripture is against the killing and the grilling of the animals he created. To this carnivore it is simple: if God did not want us to eat animals then he would have not made them out of meat.
By the way, here are some questions for the Anti-Hunter who would try to use the Bible to back up their bogus claims:
1. Who killed the first animal according to the Bible?
2. Is there one verse in the Scripture that condemns hunting? Ill bet you cant find one. Just one.
3. Was Jesus really a vegetarian hippie?
4. Would a loving God use hunting illustrations to communicate divine truth to His people?
5. Did God preserve the animals on Noahs Ark for the purpose of having them eaten by mankind?
6. Did killing predators give David the confidence that he could kill the Philistines champion, Goliath?
7. Does Thou shall not kill mean that one shouldnt go quail hunting or catch and eat a bass?
As stated, the sole intent of Rise, Kill And Eat: A Theology of Hunting From Genesis to Revelation is to showcase, through both the Old Testament and the New, what the Scriptures say about hunting, so that when you, the hunter, get around the whiners screaming foul when it comes to hunting, you can stand firm on the Verbum Dei, feel proud, and say in regards to this important activity, Hey, leave me alone. Im simply doing the Lords work.
This bookll make a great Fathers Day present for the hunter in your life.
"Doug has always fought the good fight with his razor sharp samurai sword of self-evident truth, logic, commonsense, science and The American Way. In his killer new book RISE, KILL & EAT: A Theology of Hunting From Genesis to Revelation, Doug carries on with his courageous war against the lunatic fringe who dare recommend Bambi solutions to the annual production of edible wildlife." 26:22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.
There you go. G_d held some beasts as evil and to be controlled. Hunting them put natural fear of humans into those animals.
I only eat unkilled meat -
Or lamb. If I don't want to eat meat I eat lamb instead.
Amazing that someone does not know where their meat comes from...lol
As deer hunting declines, deer become incredible pests, and breeding grounds for massive tic populations.
“3. Was Jesus really a vegetarian hippie?”
That is precisely what the modern church pushes. Even alleged conservatives will twist themselves into knots to try to prove that “sell your cloak and buy a sword” doesn’t mean “sell your cloak and buy a sword”. Hippie Jesus is a tiresome construct of our times.
Isn't it "Thou shall not murder"?
And from the New testament (Acts 10:13): “Then a voice told him, Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
#7: The Hebrew translation is “Do not murder.” Quite a difference.
Certainly God’s word is heavily, very heavily, more slanted toward the slaughter of domesticated animals.
But you are correct that hunting in general is no sin.
Of course, I assume that if you are basing your justification for hunting on His word, then you also don’t hunt/eat pigs or other forbidden critters including coons, bears, catfish, lobster, etc. The health laws are not arbitrary, basically you are instructed not to eat the garbage and meat eating critters. Bambi is clean to eat. You are not commanded to be vegetarian. But you are told to eat vegetarian creatures. And, no, that itself does not make Pamela Anderson clean to eat.
And no, those rules did not change post-Jesus. Things God said were bad before Jesus did not magically become good after Jesus. What changed is how we pay for sin. No longer via animal killing, but by faith brought about by understanding who Jesus is and why He came.
Regarding your questions:
It is not stated specifically who killed the first animal. But clearly God liked Abel’s dead animal-based offering - though it was not hunted meat.
Hunting is nowhere declared sin.
Jesus is hip, but not a vegetarian hippie.
God had Noah help the critters because He likes them for all the reasons He created them. And while they were not the target of His wrath, they were otherwise susceptible to His forewarned method of cleansing. Extra copies of the clean animals were taken along specifically to be killed/sacrificed.
Absolutely NO to the David question. Yes he killed predators as a shepherd. Yes, he killed thousands of Democrats (Philistines) with the jawbone of a Democrat. Yes, later he even was guilty of putting a hit (murder) on a man because he has the hots for the guys wife. But, no, no, no a thousand times no - it was NOT confidence in his own killing skills that put him before Goliath. It was faith in God.
Hunting is great and all (I hunt bow and gun), but there is no need to confuse people with speculation. And it would be the grave sin of false doctrine to contend that it was not purely faith that won that battle. Just read what David said about it to Goliath’s face. That should clear it up for you. Please consider carefully what it means to muddle God’s word for your own desires. Also, it has nothing specific to do with hunting, but it might help to read and consider the reason God gave David the plans for the temple but would not let him build it.
The mentioned commandment is specifically against murder, not killing in general - which I’m sure you already know. Even for those who don’t research the meaning of the words vs the English translation, it is not possible to read the bible as a whole and come to the conclusion that all killing is bad. God demanded killing many times.
??????????
“And from the New testament (Acts 10:13): “
Hunting is no sin.
But Acts 10 has absolutely nothing to do with hunting.
Nor does it justify eating pigs and such. As Peter himself explains about 15 verses later.
Out of context pull quotes are sometimes deceiving. This one in particular has led millions of Christians astray because they don’t read whole chapters/books anymore.
I’m not saying you do that, but it is something to be alert for in general.
“Where in the hell has my country gone?”
I’m afraid is it now only available in book form, check the History section.
I have a cousin in the state of New York that lives in a community with a lot of open land. She is a tree hugger who gives money to the anti-hunting groups and to the no-kill shelters.
When Bambi comes and eats her petunias, it is like throwing a switch; suddenly the deer are not so cute.
If you read the ten commandments, you will see that god is clearly creating boundries for
human/human and human/god relations. There is nothing related to animals in any of those 10 phrases.
Even if you jumped ahead to the time of Jesus, his sermon on the mount messsage (which some may interpet as new amendments to the old bible law) there is still nothing related to animals. Case closed!
That depends on which God you are talking about.
The God(s) that the hunters and gatherers worshiped were very different from the monotheistic God that farmers/herdsmen worshiped.
Jews have always taught the Seven Laws of the Children of Noah, among which is a command to avoid causing unnecessary suffering to any creature, as attested to by several Old Testament laws.
http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/1313/jewish/Discovery-of-Planet-Earth.htm
...At the outset of his creation, Man was the gardener in the Garden of Eden to “take care of it and protect it.” At first, Man was forbidden to take the life of any animal. After the Great Flood, he was permitted to consume meat—but with a warning: Do not cause unnecessary suffering to any creature...
Also there is a huge difference between killing the enemy in a war or just murdering somewone
Mans dominion over the animals of the earth was one of the things deemed ‘very good’ at the end of the sixth day.
Happening before the original sin, this is not one of the things changed by the new covenant.
God killed the first animals for clothing FOR US.
Gen 1:26 - 30 pretty much covers it.
