I know what pokeweed looks like, it grows on the side of the road a lot but I have never eaten any of it.
Poke berry juice is used as ink in black magic spells.
Sad article. Not sure where that took place, but seems like someone in the family would have reported it before now.
FYI: Poke ‘weed’ is known as Poke Stalk or Poke Salad, but never eat over 3-3 1/2 ft high, gets pithy holes.. in my part of the south. Tastes like okra...usually breaded and fried....aka poor man’s okra in the mountains.
Kudzu makes a salad, some people like it.
