... Think of it this way: Once upon a time it was possible to take climate change seriously while remaining a Republican in good standing. Today, listening to climate scientists gets you excommunicated - hence Rubio's statement, which was effectively a partisan pledge of allegiance.
And truly crazy positions are becoming the norm. A decade ago, only the GOP's extremist fringe asserted that global warming was a hoax concocted by a vast global conspiracy of scientists (although even then that fringe included some powerful politicians). Today, such conspiracy theorizing is mainstream within the party, and rapidly becoming mandatory; witch hunts against scientists reporting evidence of warming have become standard procedure, and skepticism about climate science is turning into hostility toward science in general.
It's hard to see what could reverse this growing hostility to inconvenient science. As I said, the process of intellectual devolution seems to have reached a point of no return. And that scares me more than the news about that ice sheet.

Maybe we should just blame aliens for global warming and they say the only way to end it is for all liberals to commit suicide.
Sounds like somebody been hittin' da happy smoke.
Someone tell Krugman we aren’t as gullible as he is.
Krugman scares me more than the ice sheet too.
Shee Ite.
Krugman is a moron
We just had the coldest winter in an entire generation.
I say “BUNK” to this.
Nobody doubts climate change.
If it wasn’t for climate change — Chicago would still be under a mile of ice.
It’s the Statists who Americans don’t trust.
KKKrugman, the KKKoncern troll.
I’ve had frost advisories for the last 2 nights and probably will again tonight. Yesterday morning it was 30 degrees when I got up.
I hope he lives long enough to see the bottom of the next minimum. Even I might live that long, and I’m 58!
Hey, Paul, the Nobel Prize folks called and said “Yer Nutz!”.
‘Course they said in Norwegian.
My opinion is as follows.
I think that man definitely has had an impact on the environment. But, and it’s a big but, we just have no way of knowing if man has had an impact on long term climate trends.
And, to the extent that man has impact on climate trends, we don’t know how much is man made.
Earth has had a number of ice ages in history. During the last ice age, Chicago was buried under a mile of ice. All that ice didn’t melt because Cro-Magnon man and Neanderthals had coal fired power plants. Which suggests that natural cycles, which we don’t understand, and have no control over, are what is driving whatever “climate change” the liberals say they are observing.
To the extent that we can clean up the environment, we should do so. However, anything we do should be based on a cost/benefit analysis, not on pie in the sky liberal claptrap.
For example, are the EPA regulations which will cause many coal fired power plants to shut down, really a benefit which override the increased costs we will all bear, if put into effect? The liberals who run our government and EPA are not allowing us to have that conversation.
Hmm, who is it that just pledged 100 million to the liberals? Oh yeah the same idiot that is pushing and selling “green tech”.
Nah, no correlation at all.
Just like it was a lone gunman that killed JFK and Anna Nicole married for love!
Paul Krugman is a educated babbling Idiot.
Positions endorsed by the likes of Paul Krugman, economist and climatologist.
No smoking hot spot1. The greenhouse signature is missing. We have been looking and measuring for years, and cannot find it.
Each possible cause of global warming has a different pattern of where in the planet the warming occurs first and the most. The signature of an increased greenhouse effect is a hot spot about 10km up in the atmosphere over the tropics. We have been measuring the atmosphere for decades using radiosondes: weather balloons with thermometers that radio back the temperature as the balloon ascends through the atmosphere. They show no hot spot. Whatsoever.
If there is no hot spot then an increased greenhouse effect is not the cause of global warming. So we know for sure that carbon emissions are not a significant cause of the global warming. If we had found the greenhouse signature then I would be an alarmist again.
It's not an arbitrary question the Greenhouse theory itself demands it.
He’s the idiot who suggested that the government just lie and fake an alien invasion as a means of taking money from taxpayers.
I GOT IT:
Blame climate change on illegal immigrant invaders!
Article by that noted climate expert Paul Krugman.
Now I don't have to hear form you whining greenies anymore.
