JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Authorities say a conservative Mississippi blogger went into a nursing home, photographed the bedridden wife of Republican U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran without permission and posted an image online as part of an anti-Cochran video.
Rose Cochran, 72, has lived at St. Catherine's Village since 2000 and has dementia.
Clayton Thomas Kelly, 28, of Pearl, was arrested Friday and charged with a felony, exploitation of a vulnerable adult, Madison police said. Kelly remained in the Madison County Detention Center on Saturday on $100,000 bond. It wasn't immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
Police Sgt. Robert Sanders wouldn't identify Rose Cochran as the person who was photographed. Cochran attorney Don Clark said an unauthorized photo of Rose Cochran was taken in her nursing home room, near her bedside, and it was posted briefly online as part of a video.

This has nothing to do with Cochrans votes or positions. It has everything to do with common decency.
You do understand that Cochran has MULTIPLE primary opponents?
Name any one of them that is not McDaniel and doesnt have millions of out of state money. Who do you think you are fooling?
****************************************************************
Ahh....Thomas Carey is another primary opponent of Cochran and he doesn’t have millions of out of state money.
In post 32 of this thread, you said “I support civility...”. I guess that while you may “support” civility, your posts here show clearly that you don’t “practice” civility.
And in post 23 you said “...Im putting as many Thad signs in my yard as possible....”. My suspicion (judging solely from the way you’re reacting in this thread) is that you’ve had plenty of Cochran signs in your yard already...and may even be on his campaign payroll.
And while you may be troubled by the softness of the support for Cochran, I’d say this to you: Lighten up Francis!
I'm sure he didn't do that or anything. He admitted he doesn't even know what the Tea Party is. He doesn't even read a paper. He probably doesn't know the current president of the U.S. He just does what lobbyists tell him, and he doesn't even bother to know what's going on.
I don’t much care for Sen. Cochran but this slimy piece of progressive photographer needs to be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law.
Agreed, this is sick.
Extremely suspicious. Ask the question, would you put this past McConnell and company?
You seem to almost be lamenting the fact that 99% of all gay ‘hate crimes’ in the past three years have been hoaxes. Do I need to provide links?
Just because he has dementia, doesn’t mean we should vote for him. He doesn’t have any clue what’s going on. He hasn’t heard of the Tea Party, and he still thinks Bush is president. I’m sorry for his mental condition, but that isn’t an excuse for him to bury this country in big government. All those signs in your yard might as well be Obama signs, since they come from the same philosophy. At least Obamhe a has heard of conservatism. Cochran is proud to say he doesn’t even understand conservatism.
No.
So, you support someone based on something a blogger did to them? I guess you must have voted Obama after he had that death threat against him, right?
Are you on Karl Rove’s payroll?
There was a lady in her mid-50s in my Mom’s nursing home who went from a loving leader of the church choir to full dementia in a matter of days. It was really quite sad.
Taking the photo is, as you say, spitting in the face of every family in similar circumstances.
You know what else is “spitting in our face?” A man with a sick wife shacked up with a woman not his wife... and enjoying all the perks and respect that come with the office of United Sates Senator.
How one behaves in adversity is the only true test of character. Cochran’s character — low and debased — is now on display for everyone to see.
Her sickness is not a mitigating factor in his treachery. Protecting both men and women from abandonment in such circumstances is one of the reasons marriage exists. “In sickness and in health.” Did he make up his own vows? “Except if she’s really, really sick...”
Plenty of men in similar circumstances remain faithful to their wives. Or if they don’t, they have the decency to divorce them.
Wonder how the Senator’s children feel about the bed partner coming to Christmas while their very much alive mother wastes away in a nursing home?
A guy with this kind of character isn’t fit to represent the United States in the Senate. He should resign his office today, or the voters should throw him out.
I was born in a small MS town. You are part of what is wrong with this country. Did you vote for Nobama too? I would not vote for Thad for dog catcher.
“..... their very much alive mother ...”
You don’t have much experience with Alzheimers patients, do you?
I hope they ruled out a tumor or stroke. That’s unusually fast.
I don’t, but I’m fairly sure that they’re alive.
Now, that isn't even close to true. A significant number are fairies.
Didn’t Roger Wicker have a stalker who was a Democrat?
McDaniel said the guy in question has no link at all to him as a volunteer or anything.
If this was planned, this is something that Haley Barbour or others pushed.
It wasn’t Cochran or McDaniel. It was one of the establishment who back Cochran.
McDaniel Issues Statement on Clayton Kelly Arrest
Laurel, MS - Republican Chris McDaniel today issued a statement on the arrest of Clayton Kelly, of Pearl, MS, for illegally obtaining a video of a vulnerable adult resident at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS.
“I’ve reached out to Senator Cochran directly to express my abhorrence for the reprehensible actions of this individual. This criminal act is deeply offensive and my team and I categorically reject such appalling behavior. My thoughts and prayers are with Senator Cochran and his family,” McDaniel said. “Politics is about the exchange of ideas and this type of action has no place in politics whatsoever and will not be tolerated.”
The campaign has no relationship with Mr. Clayton Kelly in either a volunteer or official capacity.
No, I don’t think the doddering old fool is clever enough to come up with this. Besides, they caught the guy who did it. It will be pretty easy to determine who put him up to it.
