When I was growing up (70s) a friend of mines family had a very long and drawn out court battle. His mom was a teacher, and she had tied a kid to the chair. I dont even know how the case turned out. I had a fourth grade teacher who tied a kid to a chair. She would also make pupils wash their mouths with soap if they used profanity. That would be considered barbaric today, but we thought it was appropriate punishment that fitted the misdeed.

I still feel the sting from the yard stick my science teacher inflicted on me. I won’t even talk about the paddle the shop teacher had.
Didn’t fool around much after that.
Huh, what a concept. The Board of Education. TASER seems a bit harsh but the judicious use of pain works every time.
