A Washington man is dead after police tasered him four times and beat him with their fists and a flashlight, according to eyewitnesses.
Neighbors report that what happened between 44-year-old Ron Hillstrom and University Place police was essentially murder.
You beat this man to death last night for no reason and we caught you, period, said one of Hillstroms neighbors, who saw the incident.
Police were called to the parking lot of Hillstroms apartment complex in the early morning hours. Hillstrom was having some sort of psychotic episode: He was pacing in a circle and muttering that people were after him. He was unarmed, but carrying a screwdriver.
A representative for the police department said that Hillstroms actions necessitated police force. He fought with officers and tried to bite them, according to Sheriff Ed Troyers statement to komonews.com.
Thats not how the neighbors described it.
No, he did not charge the police, he was just doing what he was doing before the police came, said a different eyewitness.
Not in dispute: The fact that officers tasered Hillstrom four times.

“Yes but did the officers make it home safely?”
The cops I know would first go to a pub, illegally park with their cop decals on the dash, laugh about beating the guy and then drive home drunk.
Null, here’s you a bootlicker, right here, don’t despair!
“Reminds me of Infantry training back in the 60s. Always attack into the threat w/o hesitation.
But, this isnt Vietnam and so this mindset has limited applicability in a civilian setting. Somebody needs to advise these grunt wannabees.
“
It isn’t Vietnam but a stroll through many cities here in the USA isn’t as it was in the Vietnam era either.
Nothing is as it was. Nothing.

good post but the cops are bringing a lot of this on their own actions.
Cops are trained to use guns, billy clubs, tasers, and hand to hand combat. Usually they are much larger than the average guy and they have handcuffs. I cannot think of any circumstance where the cops would be justifed in beating someone to death. It is the mentallity that they must get complete submission, regardless of the reality of the situation.
This guy was most likey mentally ill. He could have easily been rendered harmless.
That was for ambushes.
Traditionally size and weight and sex, were part of the hiring requirements, today 50 year old grandmothers can become cops.
and...
"Troyer claims the Pierce County Medical Examiner found no blows to Hillstrom's head. However, the Medical Examiner's Office said the autopsy is not complete."
Maybe he died of an overdose. You'd have to beat someone's arms, legs, and torso with a flashlight for a good long time before you'd cause enough internal bleeding for death to occur.
I’ve lived in a rough neighborhood for many years and every encounter has proved 75-90% of cops give the rest a bad name. Especially around the summer time when I get very dark and go out in athletic wear (I’m white, non-hispanic but tan very well).
I’ve been accused of dealing, been roughly frisked many times, been accused of auto stripping and ended up in jail while my house was searched, handcuffed and kicked on the ground twice. Every time they were rough, complete ***holes and unprofessional. 1-2 out of ten seemed decent but they were always drowned out by a pack of idiots.
Every time I needed them, they were a complete disappointment and waste of time. Recently, we are hearing more and more stories that they are beating or killing people who ask for help.
Let’s disband these roided wannabe armies. All we need is the 2nd Amendment

Who very often retire early on a disability claim and go on to collect very generous pensions.
“Too bad I’m not allowed to ping an enthusiastic police defender anymore.”
There are still some out there?
I wonder that too. Something is not right with law enforcement.
“Are there more cop attacks now than in the past or just more documented due to cell phone and dashboard cameras?”
Ironically, I think there are probably fewer than in the past. There are now more cameras and the attitude towards police has shifted markedly. 20 years ago, the cops would have been given the benefit of the doubt by the public and the press. What was an unfortunate death 20 years ago is now a news story, and witnesses are no longer inclined to disregard their lying eyes.
Oh yeah. Big time.
“Communist agitprop has always been to make cops the enemy, so I am skeptical about all these blanket easy condemnations.”
Sow the wind and sometimes you get to reap the whirlwind.
That is a serious problem.
Challenge accepted...
“We need a lot more citizen review boards and accountability from the police.”
The citizen review boards are there for whitewash, not accountability. You’ll never see the accountability. We’d be far better off simply cutting the number of police by about 2/3 and relying on ourselves for any security needs.
“Lets disband these roided wannabe armies. All we need is the 2nd amendment.”
Dittoes.
