Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Donnelly on Wednesday lashed out at the GOP elite that is rallying around rival Neel Kashkari, saying they are scared of his own candidacy..
"I'm a threat to the country club Republicans, Donnelly, an assemblyman from San Bernardino County, told the San Francisco Chronicles editorial board. I'm a danger -- because I might bring a little more country into the club."
Donnelly is the front-runner among GOP candidates to win a spot on the fall ballot to take on Gov. Jerry Brown in the fall. He is running an insurgent campaign on a shoestring budget that is focused on turning out the most passionate GOP voters in the June 3 primary election.
But a string of controversies -- including inflammatory rhetoric about illegal immigration and an attempt to link Kashkari, a practicing Hindu, to fundamentalist Islamic law -- has prompted GOP officials and groups to denounce his bid. They include Rep. Darrell Issa, New Majority and the Lincoln Club of Orange County.
On Wednesday, the Lincoln Club, a moneyed, business-centric GOP group, published a scathing editorial in the Orange County Register that said of Donnelly: Not Fit to Lead the GOP.
Kashkari has also received all of the big-name Republican endorsements made in the race, including from 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former California Gov. Pete Wilson, Issa and -- on Wednesday -- former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Donnelly argued that such Republicans have "lost touch with people in the neighborhoods" because "they're too busy golfing or drinking together," according to the Chronicle.
Yeah, I have 370,000 miles on my vehicle and I have only one suit - people have figured it out," Donnelly said.

Here is ALL you need to know about Kashkari:
He voted for Obama.
The other day even Hugh Hewitt came out against Donnelly.
Donnelly is right. The GOP is afraid of its own shadow. I don’t know what Donnelly’s prospects are in California against Governor Moonbeam. The last poll I saw on the race from March was that Donnelly was the only GOP candidate to break double digits in the race while Kashkari and the rest only had 2%. California is lost to the GOP till they find a candidate for Governor that has the $, the backbone, and the personality to start deconstructing the leftist status quo that is strangling the state. Right now the phony “surplus” probably makes Governor Moonbeam indestructible. I do think are the attacks on Donnelly are unjustified. What he said based on what I researched about
Neel Kashkari was true. He supported the United States submitting to the Islamic, Shariah banking code in 2008 when he ran TARP. I think its enough that “he ran TARP”. I know its California but why in the hell would we want a guy why was right in happy TARP land? I get it that running a hard line conservative might not work well but do we have to through out every principle and then lose anyway and that is what appears is going to happen regardless the hysteria from the Kashkari side.
Personally I don’t think the GOP are going to have a chance in CA until this whole made up “surplus” evaporates and the water issue hits a peek. If I were running I’d run pro people and pro freeing up the water and anti-urban inflation. I think that the GOP if they less of a tin ear they might be able to make in roads but instead they continue to treat dealing with minorities and Hispanics as if they are more concerned about illegal immigration than they are about kitchen table issues because that is the only way the GOP is going to reach persuadable voters. It needs to show its more than just talking to itself.
Personally I recommend that every GOP candidate for office spend a few weeks prepping by watching Ronald Reagan videos and how he interacted with people. He didn’t communicate like a leftist. He made a convincing commonsense case and he didn’t come off as mean or unfeeling. Its an up hill battle but the GOP needs to do more than to dance around trying to beat each other up over the same straw man issues that the left beat us up with. We need candidates that challenge the premises of the left without coming off as absolute jerks. People will listen to commonsense but few out there are even trying.
Being the architect of TARP, the biggest strong arm robbery and extortion of the US taxpayers in history, should have been the first disqualifier.
Finding out that he voted for Obama eliminated him from any consideration whatsoever on my part. The rest is detail.
I never needed to look into his political leanings. A crook is a crook.
I’m a danger — because I might bring a little more country into the club.”

Donnelly needs to make a campaign flyer out of that and flood the social networks on the internet with it also.
The other day even Hugh Hewitt came out against Donnelly.

Hugh Hewitt? Does anyone even listen to that idiot anymore?
In a normal state that would make sense.
Not so sure in deep blue one-party CA where BHO remains popular and carried the state by huge margins in both 2008 and 2012.

Also another factor: Our primary is no longer a closed election . On primary day anyone can vote for anyone regardless of party affiliation. If we had a closed primary system like we used to, you have an excellent idea.
