I have to wonder if anyone else in the IT world has noticed the serious drop in the quality of H1B workers of late? Maybe it's just at the place I'm working a project at right now, but I can't tell you the number of queries I'm getting from people who just have no idea at all how to do even the most basic troubleshooting.

These people are coming to me with DNS questions (that's largely my baliwick at the moment) that are just insanely stupid. Stuff like "I can't ping foosystema, is DNS for this system broken?". Yet the screenshot (it's always an actual image, rather than just a cut/paste of the text - which is another issue), clearly shows the ping command resolves, because it prints the IP that it's attempting to ping. They have no idea about ports, firewalls, or anything, yet I'm sure they are being paid decent money for their alleged 'skills' whatever they are.  It's like they are getting dumber and dumber.

This post probably belongs in a tech thread, but it's just been really annoying me the past few weeks.

I am IN the IT world. I am more in the wire aspect but I have to deal with “Cisco certified technicians” that the companies I contract with when turning a circuit up or if something is not working correctly..

With the exception of one clec (phone company basically) they are all from india, and are likely still IN India.. Their english is horrible and their skills are miserable. I use to think learning Cisco and passing the test would be hard.. Now I am not so sure.

One thing they have learned is the american blame game. it’s never them. it’s always something I did. Even when I prove them wrong with testing results..
