motorist who allegedly brandished a gun at another driver.
Turns out the driver who displayed the handgun was an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, a State Patrol report said.
The incident began about 6:40 a.m. on eastbound I-694 in Brooklyn Park, where a motorist called police to report that another driver was displaying a gun.
The motorist followed the gun-toting driver east to I-94, and then south on I-94 into Minneapolis.
Police caught up to that driver on I-94 at Olson Hwy. and blocked two of the southbound lanes for a short time while making an arrest. That was enough to cause traffic to jam up back to West Broadway.
The State Patrol took the man with the gun into custody. He was questioned and released after officers learned he was an ATF agent who was carrying proper credentials.
His name was not released per Minnesota State Statue 13.82, which states that data would reveal the identity of an undercover law enforcement officer can be kept private.
The incident is under investigation.

They’re hiring dumbos. Police scanners reveal the ATF messes up consistently for stupid reasons. Of course it never makes the news.
I doubt any ‘civilian’ would have been released even if they had a cow

You aren’t nully? You’re his son? Is he okay?

So because he’s a gov agent, he’s free to break the law. Okay, just so we’re all clear on what’s what.
FWIW, About ten years ago I was pulled over at night for a minor traffic violation in a small town in Texas. Normally no big deal. The sheriff’s deputy was wearing a hat and a windbreaker with the ‘D.E.A.’ in bright yellow reflective lettering.
While I did deserve the ticket, I was kind of irked because people in the community passing by could clearly see that I was pulled over by an official whose costume implied that it was his job to solve drug crimes.
Not in Minneeesota.. We’re nice folks don’t chya know...
We would probably make them a casserole.
Just quoting the kid with attribution.
I’m more or less OK...
Dear Idiot MHP,
Being an ATF agent does NOT make it legal to brandish a gun!
Throw that @$$ in jail and let the courts decide what’s next!
Ah, got it. Sorry to hear you’re only more or less okay. I think many of us would say that, me for instance.
Better than not okay at all.
That would be a safe assumption.
“Worst case scenario....hell be allowed to retire with a full pension.Or,perhaps, hell be allowed to retire with a disability pension...no taxes.Hell,he might even be cited for bravery.”
What...no crazy checks????
I don’t like today’s model of every cop has to carry a gun and is encouraged to carry one off duty.
I would like to see less guns in the cops hands and a two tiered carry system. Grade 1 people check their guns in at the station when they go off duty. Grade 2 people get to carry off duty.
This way when an idiot like that ATF agent waves his gun just to be threatening could have their gun toting rights taken away.
It’s Minnesota so they will let the fellow comrade off with a stern lecture not to get caught next time ... in fact, shoot any witnesses and then it’s your word against a dead terrorist.
He was just thugging on down the road.
Oh, fer sure, I know what kind of casserole you can wind up in in those parts. I’ve been watching Fargo, yeah. lol
IT means the thin blue line is getting wider and wider.
Very well thought out idea.
nuking all of batfe would be a wonderful start.
mn would crucify joe average for brandishing. and the cops would demand more un restrictions on citizens and so woud the anti-gun groups.
note the leos and gun antigun groups are totally silent on cops breaking gun laws.
