Really? Here’s paragraph two:

Indeed, in eliminating dissent and unifying Putins subjects into a mad herd behind his plans for war and fascism, the massacre could hardly have better served his aims and objectives if the former spymaster had planned it himself”
Makes sense to me
He begins the article citing the date of 1943 (a year after the well known Odessa Massacre) and makes no mention of the year when he shifts to the present. FYI every year has a May 2nd in it. That’s crappy journalism.
