Science and Technology Minister Yaakov Perry (Yesh Atid) is trying to shelve the law that was approved Sunday by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation and that would enforce life sentences for terrorist prisoners.
On Monday evening, Perry filed an appeal against the law, essentially burying it before it can be brought to the Cabinet for approval.
The law would amend one of the Basic Laws of Israel, which allows the President to pardon criminals, by stating certain conditions that would prevent the pardon of any convicted terrorist.
The amendment seeks to allow the judges of the court, at the time of sentencing during trials for nationalist murders, terrorist activity or any other heinous crime, to negate the possibility of providing future amnesty.
Perrys move was met with outrage by the Jewish Home party, whose MK Ayelet Shaked proposed the bill along with MK David Tzur (Hatnua). Tzur co-sponsored the bill despite objection by the head of his party, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who insists the option of releasing mass-murderers should be kept open.
Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett slammed Perrys move, saying it was a mark of disgrace on the entire Yesh Atid party.

Rude to put them away for life. Hard to kill Jews from prison. Not impossible, but hard. And it is what they do, give them another chance.
Solution is simple: stop taking prisoners.
I would be for releasing them one piece at a time, but the MSM would call that barbaric.
Since they blocked this one, its proponents should then put forward a death penalty bill.
Aww...why be so mean. We can just sell them as sex slaves, like Boko Haram.
My first inclination is that when some terrorist is nabbed, put them in solitary with no contact. Then via the rumor mill, put out that they were executed and their body was put in a cesspit with a dead pig.
Since it is just a rumor, they can deny it. But it would frazzle the other Arabs. And if pressured too hard, produce the living terrorist.
Then later, rinse and repeat with the next terrorist.
After producing him, to prove that he wasn’t killed and dumped in a cesspool with pigs, circulate rumor that he has turned informer, and release among general prisoner population.
What are the conditions in Israel to charge someone with treason? Could a MK serve time with the general population, which I imagine is largely Arab?
