What I think is odd is, the same people that expound on the greatness of evolution, want to prevent the normal evolutionary act of a species going extinct Heh, or even that they claim a rodent is "endangered" in the first place. Geez by nature these critters reproduce like crazy in order to feed those higher up on the food chain.
You're right. Doesn't make sense even within their own evolutionary worldview. Where is their "pro-choice" god now?
