DONETSK, May 12. /ITAR-TASS/. The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has made a plea asking to be accepted into the Russian Federation, the republic’s co-leader, Denis Pushilin, told a news conference on Monday.

“We, the people of the Donetsk People’s Republic, relying on the results of the May 11, 2014 referendum and the declaration of independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic, declare that from now on the Donetsk People’s Republic is a sovereign state,” Pushilin said.

“Proceeding from the will expressed by the DPR people and for the sake of restoring historical justice we are asking Russia to consider the issue of the DPR’s admission to the Russian Federation,” Pushilin said.

May 11, Luhansk and Donetsk regions of Ukraine held referenda on their status. According to data provided by central election committees, amid the punitive operation being carried out by Kiev authorities in Ukraine’s east, about 80% of registered voters in the Donetsk region and almost the same number in the Luhansk region took part in the polls. According to preliminary reports, 89.7% voted for the independence of the Donetsk Republic. In the Luhansk region, 96.2% casted voted for the act on state independence.

The self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic has now requested admission to the Russian Federation. Its going to be interesting to see if Lugansk will follow suit.

If they both apply, its hard to see President Putin turning them down. After all, he has Crimea as a precedent.

Has the People's Republic of Donetsk spoken yet?

With 98% saying “da” - how can Russia say “nyet” to the fraternal brethren?

The only thing that would deter Putin are further sanctions. No wait - those have been imposed already.

They’ll get leaked to the Russian press once Russia has safely absorbed them.

Just like the Chechnyians declared independence ‘cept they didn’t have the military of a neighboring country to hide behind.

The hypocrisy of Russian foreign policy is staggering. It is backward and quite undeveloped.

Its all about self-determination. Look at it this way: the request comes from the Ukrainians themselves. If the Russians send in the tanks, it will take place after the treaties are signed, sealed and delivered.

Gosh. Gee. I wonder.....if Luhansk will "ask" for admission next.

(It's like watching a professional wrestling match.)

Do you really doubt it? If they want to join Russia - there is nothing Kiev or the West can do to stop them.

This was fait accompli back after the February revolution in Kiev, and Ray Charles could see it coming. Just as Putin was not going to let Sevastopol and the rest of Crimea fall into NATO’s hands, he was not going to lose the Russian military’s industrial base in Donetsk under any circumstances. It is never safe to live along the frontier, and whether by hook or crook and whether anyone likes it or not, Russia will continue to dominate eastern Ukraine.

I see a number of new Russian oblasts - followed by Transdniestria. In other words, nearly all of the historic Russian-speaking Novorossiya will revert back to Russia.

The rest of rump Ukraine centered around Lvov and Ivano-Frankovsk will become the West’s consolation prize.

President Putin has orchestrated things rather impressively - and it looks like the dominoes are falling his way.

“President Putin has orchestrated things rather impressively - and it looks like the dominoes are falling his way.”

NONE of this would be happening, had not the Obama Administration financially backed the most radical elements in Ukraine into overthrowing the elected government.

Crimea would still have a Ukrainian Flag over it, the Southeast wouldn’t be trying to break away, and there wouldn’t be complete chaos in the country.

All of this in a failed attempt to Pressure Putin, after he embarrassed The Gay Media Messiah over Syria.

Basically, the Maidan regime, run by incompetents and lunatics, have done everything they could to destroy Ukrainian statehood.

The secession of Donetsk and Lugansk is evidence of their epic failure. In all fairness, it must be said Yanukovych never did anything so stupid as President. He tried to steer a middle course.

But Western Ukies hated his guts, successfully overthrew him and the rest as they say - is now history.

If the T-90 tanks roll in it will not be an invasion but more like a Victory Parade. If is not the word—when. The Duma may approve of it after all the hysteria whipped up by Putin and his party. Lugansk is next—The land bridge to Criema is being built. I only hope the People get a better deal from Moscow than they did from Kiev. It looks like they want stability more than nationalism. Nothing we can really do but watch. After this Putin will take a break as he digests these conquests. Look to see more Russia-Egypt moves or Russia-Cuba moves. Russia will hand the baton to China—you will see more action in the south China Sea and India.

“you will see more action in the south China Sea and India.”

You already are. Vietnam and China are close to a full-blown war in the last week, and curiously, it hasn’t made ANY of the Alphabet Network Evening News shows.

I guess noting yet ANOTHER consequence of Obama’s foreign policy failures might cost them their cushy jobs.

The traitor Yanukovich did everything he could to destroy Ukrainian statehood and leave his own coutry defenseless to Russia’s premeditated aggression. Then he ran away to Russia to hide behind his master KGB Putin.

I wonder if that part of Ukraine is so weakened, if they would beg to become part of Poland again?
